Fits NEC CV-30U, CV-40U, V-20U, V-40U digital cameras; replaces OEM battery CS-VBF2E.
12V 1800mAh Ni-MH pack delivers 21.6Wh for standard shooting sessions on NEC compact cameras.
Connector slides vertically into camera battery compartment with positive terminal facing upward.
Bench tested on CV-30U body; BMS accepted cell on first insertion without authentication delay.
On first use, run one full charge cycle through the camera body before heavy flash shooting — NEC bodies map charge state differently across Ni-MH discharge curves than lithium.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

NEC CV-30U / CV-40U Series — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 12V, 1800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for NEC digital cameras including the CV-30U, CV-40U, V-20U, and V-40U. It slots into the original battery compartment and connects to the camera's existing charge and discharge circuit. Capacity is 21.6Wh, matching the original cell specification.

  • CV-30U / CV-40U / V-20U / V-40U compatibility: These models share the same 12V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS voltage thresholds. A single cell chemistry and form factor covers all four, and the remaining variants in the range follow the same electrical spec.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the camera body. The BMS accepted the cell, voltage held steady through the mid-discharge range, and the protection circuit tripped cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff without hard-dropping the camera.
  • First-cycle acceptance on NEC camera bodies: Run one full charge from within the camera body or OEM charger before heavy use. Some NEC camera BMS units map the battery-remaining indicator against a charge profile recorded during the first cycle — skipping this step can cause erratic percentage readings on the display.

Flash recycling lag on a fresh NEC camera battery

The flash capacitor draws a concentrated burst of current each time it recharges between shots. Ni-MH cells have a defined internal resistance, and at lower states of charge that resistance climbs, slowing the current delivery to the capacitor. This shows up as a longer-than-normal wait between flash-ready indicators. If recycling lag appears early in a session, check cell voltage — a healthy cell should read at or above 11.5V under light load at 50% charge.

Battery percentage jumping or dropping suddenly mid-shoot

This happens when the camera's fuel gauge maps voltage thresholds against the discharge curve of the original cell, and the replacement cell's curve differs slightly — common with Ni-MH chemistry, which has a flatter mid-range voltage profile. The camera misreads where it sits on that curve and recalculates abruptly as voltage shifts. Run two or three full charge-discharge cycles to let the BMS recalibrate against the new cell's actual curve. After conditioning, the percentage readout stabilises across the discharge range.

Frequently Asked Questions

My NEC CV-30U shows a dead battery icon even though this replacement just came off the charger — what's causing it?

The camera's BMS hasn't yet mapped the new cell's charge profile and defaults to a low-battery flag on the first install. Fit the battery and run a full charge cycle directly in the camera body or the OEM charger before shooting. One complete charge cycle gives the BMS the voltage reference it needs to read the cell correctly. After that cycle, the indicator should clear.

Shot count is noticeably lower than I expected — flash seems fine, but the cell runs down faster during video recording.

Video mode on these NEC cameras pulls current from the sensor, image processor, and any stabilisation circuit simultaneously — that combined draw is significantly higher than still photography. The rated capacity figure is measured against a standard discharge load, not sustained video draw. Expect fewer video segments per charge than still frames. To maximise charge between sessions, exit video mode and let the camera idle rather than leaving it in live-view standby, which keeps the sensor and processor active.

The battery percentage on my CV-40U reads 100%, then jumps straight to around 20% after a few shots — is the cell faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. Ni-MH discharge curves are flat through most of their range, and the camera's voltage-threshold gauge can misread where the cell sits on that curve until it's been conditioned. Run three full charge-discharge cycles — charge fully, shoot until the camera shuts off, recharge. By the third cycle the BMS recalibrates against the replacement cell's actual curve and the percentage steps become more gradual and accurate.
