Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Bendix King HH2500 / HH400 — 10.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (MA181)
This is a 10.8V, 1200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Bendix King HH2500, HH400, MINIcomM1, and MINIcomM2 handheld transceivers. It replaces OEM part numbers MA181 and BP4. These radios are used in aviation, marine, and emergency services — situations where a dead pack is not an option.
- HH2500 / HH400 / MINIcom platform fit: These models share the same 10.8V three-cell Ni-MH voltage rail, battery housing geometry, and contact layout. One replacement SKU covers the full group because the electrical and mechanical interface is identical across the platform.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on an HH2500 and cycled it through full charge and PTT load events. The BMS handled transmit current spikes without tripping, and cell voltage held stable across repeated keying cycles.
- First-cycle contact check on Bendix King docks: If the charger shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the contact strip with a dry cloth, and firmly reseat it. The dock needs a clean contact to complete the BMS handshake before it will begin charging.
Why the HH2500 cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery
Ni-MH cells ship at partial storage voltage — typically 1.0–1.1V per cell — not at full charge. On a fresh pack, the transmit current spike when PTT is pressed can cause the BMS to detect an undervoltage condition and momentarily cut power to the RF stage. This is not a defective pack. Run one full charge cycle before field use and the cutout behaviour stops.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after swap
The HH2500 reads battery level from cell voltage thresholds, not a fuel gauge chip. A new Ni-MH pack at storage voltage sits below the top threshold, so the radio displays one bar short immediately after insertion. This corrects itself after the first complete charge cycle brings all three cells to 1.4V or above. No fault — charge the pack fully before reading the indicator.

Frequently Asked Questions
My HH2500 drops to low TX power mid-shift even though the battery was fully charged at the start — what's happening?
Sustained RF output draws higher current than standby or receive mode, and Ni-MH cells show sharper voltage sag under that load as the pack ages or if cells are mismatched. On a new replacement pack, this can also happen in the first one or two cycles before the cells have balanced. Run two full charge-discharge cycles and check whether the sag continues — if it persists past that, the dock contacts may not be delivering full charge current, so clean the gold contact strip and re-charge to confirm cell voltage reaches 1.4V per cell before the next shift.
The charger dock blinks a fault LED and never clears after I install this battery — how do I fix it?
The Bendix King dock uses a voltage threshold to decide whether to accept a pack. A new Ni-MH battery shipped at storage voltage can sit below that threshold, causing the dock to reject the charge cycle entirely. Remove the pack, wipe both the battery contacts and dock contacts with a dry cloth to eliminate any resistance, then reseat the pack firmly and hold it in place for three seconds. If the fault LED clears and charging begins, the contact cycle completed the BMS handshake — if it does not, check that cell voltage across the pack reads at least 9.6V with a multimeter before re-inserting.
This battery sat unused in a drawer for several months and now the radio won't power on — is the pack dead?
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day, so a pack stored for several months can drop below the radio's minimum startup voltage. The pack is likely not dead — it is in a deeply discharged state. Place it in the charger dock and leave it for a full charge cycle of at least 12 hours; many Ni-MH chargers have a trickle-recovery mode that will slowly bring the cells back up from low voltage. If the dock accepts the pack and the charge LED cycles normally, check cell voltage after the cycle — it should read between 12.6V and 13.2V fully charged before you reinsert it into the radio.
