Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Standard FT-4703 / FTC-5203 Series — 10.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (FNB-2)
This is a 10.8V, 1200mAh Ni-MH replacement for the Standard FNB-2 battery pack. It fits the FT-4703, FTC-5203, HH2500, MA18U, and eight additional Standard portables that share the FNB-2 form factor. Voltage and connector match OEM spec — no modifications needed.
- FT-4703 / FTC-5203 platform fit: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, contact layout, and 10.8V voltage rail. One pack covers the full FNB-2 compatible group without any adapter or modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on a Standard-compatible dock. The BMS responded correctly to charge termination at peak voltage delta — no false cutoffs, no thermal flags.
- First-insertion contact check: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Standard platform requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.
Why the FT-4703 cuts out mid-transmission on a new FNB-2 pack
Ni-MH cells ship at partial charge — typically 30–50% of rated capacity. When PTT is pressed, transmit current spikes sharply. A cell at storage voltage cannot sustain that draw, and the radio's undervoltage protection trips the output stage. This is a cell state issue, not a BMS fault. Run one full charge cycle on the dock before putting the radio into service and the cutout behaviour stops.
Bar indicator shows one fewer bar than expected after fitting a new FNB-2
Standard portables read battery state through voltage-threshold bar indicators — each bar maps to a voltage band. A new Ni-MH pack at storage voltage sits below the top threshold, so the display shows one bar short even on a fresh cell. This is not a capacity defect. Charge the pack fully on a Standard-compatible dock and the indicator will step up to the correct bar count once resting voltage stabilises above 11.5V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My FT-4703 cuts out the moment I press PTT — new battery, why is it dropping?
Ni-MH packs ship at storage charge, roughly 30–50% capacity. Pressing PTT pulls a sharp transmit current spike that a partially charged cell cannot sustain, tripping the radio's undervoltage cutoff. This is not a faulty pack. Charge the FNB-2 fully on a compatible Standard dock and the cutout will stop — resting voltage should read above 11.5V before use.
The charger dock is showing a fault LED and won't start charging the new pack — what's wrong?
The Standard dock needs a clean electrical handshake across the gold contact strip before it will accept a new pack. Residual oxidation or misalignment on first insertion blocks that cycle and the dock flags a fault. Remove the pack, wipe the contacts with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the LED should clear and charging should begin within 30 seconds.
This FNB-2 pack sat unused for months — now the dock won't accept it at all. Is it dead?
Extended storage drops Ni-MH cell voltage below the dock's acceptance threshold, and the charger refuses to begin a charge cycle. The pack is not necessarily dead. Apply a slow trickle charge using a universal charger set to the lowest NiMH current setting — typically 100–200mA — until the pack reaches approximately 10.0V, then transfer it to the Standard dock to complete a normal charge cycle.
