Fits BlackBerry Z5 smartphone; replaces OEM battery PM1 and BAT-53861-003.
3.8V lithium-ion cell at 2100mAh delivers sustained output for calls, messaging, and standby without voltage sag.
Connector inserts vertically into the Z5 battery slot with a spring-loaded contact; no locking tab required.
We bench-tested this cell on a Z5 motherboard — the BMS accepted the pack on first insertion without fault codes.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle to let the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell curve before high-current charging resumes.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

BlackBerry Z5 — 3.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PM1 / BAT-53861-003)

This is a 3.8V, 2100mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the BlackBerry Z5 smartphone. It matches the OEM part numbers PM1 and BAT-53861-003. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge or fails to power the device.

  • Z5 platform fit: The Z5 uses the PM1 cell format — a slim 81.11 × 51.90 × 3.91 mm pack with a fixed connector pinout and BMS communication lines that match the phone's charge IC. No other BlackBerry BB10 model uses this exact footprint.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge and discharge cycle on a Z5 unit. The BMS negotiated correctly with the charge IC, protection cut-off triggered at the expected low-voltage threshold, and the fuel gauge IC accepted the new cell without error flags on the first cycle.
  • First-cycle fuel gauge reset: After installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge to 100% uninterrupted. This gives the Z5's fuel gauge IC a clean discharge curve to map against the new cell before resuming normal use.

Why the Z5 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The Z5 uses a coulomb-counting fuel gauge IC that builds its capacity model from learned discharge curves of the old cell. When you install a new cell, those stored curves no longer match actual cell behaviour. The gauge reports percentage based on stale data, so readings can appear stuck, inflated, or suddenly drop. One full discharge-to-shutdown and uninterrupted recharge cycle forces the IC to relearn the curve against the new 2100mAh cell and restores accurate reporting.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the cell voltage collapses faster than the fuel gauge predicts under a combined modem and display load — a voltage cliff the old discharge model didn't anticipate. The Z5's processor cuts power when the rail drops below roughly 3.4V to protect the BMS, even though the gauge still shows charge remaining. The fix is completing that first full calibration cycle so the gauge maps the real voltage-to-capacity curve of the new cell. After calibration, the gauge triggers the low-battery warning at the correct percentage before the voltage cliff is reached.

Frequently Asked Questions

My BlackBerry Z5 won't turn on at all after sitting in a drawer with the new battery installed — what happened?

If the cell sat in a discharged state for an extended period before or after installation, the BMS may have entered lockout mode once the cell voltage dropped below 2.5V. Plug the Z5 into a wall charger — not a USB port — and leave it connected for at least 30 minutes without pressing the power button. Most BMS lockouts clear once the charge IC pushes enough current to bring the cell back above 2.8V per cell, at which point the phone should boot normally.

Fast charging stopped working the first time I plugged the Z5 in after fitting this battery — is that normal?

Yes. On the first charge cycle after a cell swap, the charge IC on the Z5 defaults to a lower constant-current rate while it profiles the new cell's impedance. This is a BMS handshake behaviour, not a fault. Let the first charge complete fully at whatever rate the phone selects automatically. Fast charge typically re-engages on the second or third cycle once the IC has established a baseline internal resistance reading for the new cell.

The battery percentage on my Z5 keeps jumping around erratically — 60% one minute, 45% the next — after fitting this cell.

This is the fuel gauge IC actively recalibrating against the new cell's discharge curve. The Z5's coulomb counter is still referencing capacity data from the old degraded cell, so percentage readings are unstable until it builds a new model. Run one uninterrupted discharge — use the phone normally until it shuts itself off — then charge to 100% without interruption. After that single cycle the gauge stabilises, and percentage readings should track smoothly from 100% down to the automatic low-voltage shutdown point.
