Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

COMEN Star 8000 / Star 8000 E / M2000A — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (022-000084-00)
This is a 10.8V, 3400mAh (36.72Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the COMEN Star 8000, Star 8000 E, and M2000A patient monitors. These are portable clinical monitors used for continuous vital signs surveillance in wards, ICUs, and surgical suites. The battery slots directly into the existing battery bay and connects to the same BMS handshake circuit as the original cell pack.
- Star 8000 / Star 8000 E / M2000A platform fit: All three monitors share the same 10.8V three-cell series architecture, battery bay dimensions, and BMS communication protocol. One battery form factor covers all three, because COMEN used a common power rail across this monitor family.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell pack through charge and full-draw discharge on a Star 8000 unit. The BMS completed its handshake without fault codes, and the charge IC brought the pack to 10.8V nominal without triggering overvoltage protection. First-cycle capacity read within 3% of rated 3400mAh.
- Post-swap self-test protocol: After installing this battery, let the monitor complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The COMEN BMS runs a battery verification sequence during boot. Cutting power mid-sequence logs a battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot — it does not clear on its own.
Why the Star 8000 flags a battery fault after a confirmed good installation
The Star 8000 BMS stores a cell chemistry fingerprint from the previous battery. A new cell with a different internal resistance profile can trigger a mismatch flag on first boot, even if voltage and capacity are correct. This is not a defect — it is the monitor's BMS comparing the new cell's impedance against cached OEM values. Running one full charge-discharge cycle lets the BMS update its reference and clears the flag on subsequent boots. Do not assume a fault code on first startup means the battery is faulty.
Charge indicator stuck below 100% on first charge
On the first charge cycle, the Star 8000 charge IC applies a conservative current limit to an unfamiliar cell pack — this is intentional behaviour, not a charger fault. The indicator may plateau at 90–95% and hold there for an extended period before the IC is satisfied the pack meets its termination criteria. Let the charge cycle run to natural completion without unplugging early. After one full charge and one full discharge, the charge IC recalibrates its termination threshold and subsequent charges reach 100% normally. If the indicator still does not reach 100% after two full cycles, check that pack voltage under no-load measures at least 12.4V.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Star 8000 is alarming low battery immediately after I just fully charged the new battery — what's happening?
The monitor's BMS compares incoming cell impedance against a threshold calibrated for the original OEM chemistry. A fresh replacement cell reads higher internal resistance than a broken-in pack, which the BMS interprets as low charge even when voltage is correct. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle without interrupting the self-test sequence at boot. After that conditioning cycle, the BMS recalibrates its alarm threshold to the new cell's impedance profile and the false low-battery alarm stops.
The Star 8000 won't power on at all after the new battery sat uninstalled for a few weeks — is it dead?
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and if the pack voltage drops below approximately 9V, the Star 8000 BMS locks out the output rail as a deep-discharge protection measure. Connect the battery to the monitor and leave it on charge for a minimum of 30 minutes before attempting to power on — the charge IC needs time to trickle-charge the pack above the BMS recovery threshold before it will release the lockout. If the monitor still does not boot after 30 minutes of charge, check that pack voltage at the terminals reads at least 9.5V before concluding the cell is unrecoverable.
The Star 8000 is shutting off unexpectedly mid-monitoring session in the first week of use — is the capacity wrong?
New Li-ion cells deliver full rated capacity only after 5–10 full charge-discharge cycles. In the first week, the cell's electrolyte has not fully wetted all active material, so usable capacity runs below the rated 3400mAh — the BMS hits its low-voltage cutoff sooner than expected and the monitor shuts off. This resolves progressively across the first ten cycles without any intervention. To accelerate conditioning, run the monitor on battery only until the low-battery alarm triggers, then charge fully — repeat this three times. Track improvement by noting how far into a session the alarm appears; it should shift later each cycle.
