Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HP PhotoSmart C2614A Series — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (5184-5261)
This is a 6V 1200mAh Ni-MH battery for HP PhotoSmart digital cameras including the C2614A, C2617A, C2621A, and C2622A. It replaces OEM part numbers 5184-5261 and C3059A. If your original cell no longer holds a charge or the camera refuses to power on, this cell restores full shooting functionality.
- PhotoSmart C2600 series compatibility: These cameras share the same battery bay geometry, 6V supply rail, and connector orientation. One cell fits the entire C2600 lineup without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on a PhotoSmart body. The camera BMS accepted the cell, reported charge status correctly, and flash recycling remained consistent across the test session.
- First-cycle charge protocol: Insert the new cell and run one complete charge cycle through the camera body or OEM charger before shooting. Some PhotoSmart BMS firmware will not map the battery-remaining indicator accurately until it completes one full charge cycle from near-empty.
Flash recycling slowing down before the cell reads empty
The flash capacitor draws a sharp recharge current after every shot. Ni-MH cells show voltage sag under that burst load before the resting voltage drops low enough to trigger the camera's low-battery indicator. As a result, you'll notice slower flash recycling while the display still shows charge remaining. This is normal Ni-MH discharge behaviour, not a fault with the cell. Once resting voltage drops below approximately 5.4V, the camera will flag low battery.
Battery percentage jumping erratically after fitting a new cell
PhotoSmart cameras map their battery indicator against a discharge curve calibrated to a partially aged OEM cell. A fresh Ni-MH cell has a flatter discharge curve than the camera firmware expects, so the percentage reading can jump or stall at unexpected points. This is a calibration mismatch, not a faulty cell. Run two full charge-to-empty cycles through the camera body and the indicator will track the new cell's curve far more accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions
My HP PhotoSmart shows a dead battery icon immediately after fitting the new cell — is the battery dead on arrival?
Almost certainly not. HP PhotoSmart cameras run an authentication check when a new cell is first inserted, and a cell that has never been charged can read as flat even if it shipped with a partial charge. Insert the cell and place it on charge via the OEM charger or camera body for a full cycle before drawing any conclusion. If the icon clears once charging begins, the cell is fine.
Shot count is far lower than I expected — the cell seems to drain much faster than the original did.
Flash, continuous autofocus, and LCD brightness are the main draws on this platform, and they stack. A Ni-MH cell at 1200mAh will also deliver fewer shots in temperatures below 10°C because cold suppresses available capacity without reducing the rated mAh figure. Check whether image stabilisation or continuous AF is active during shooting — disabling either will reduce per-shot draw noticeably. Shot count will also improve after the first two full charge cycles as the cell reaches its rated capacity.
The camera body feels warm during extended use and then shuts off without a low-battery warning.
Sustained shooting with the LCD live and flash recycling frequently generates combined draw that can push the cell's internal temperature high enough for the BMS to trigger a thermal cutoff. This is a protective shutdown, not a fault. Let the camera and battery rest for ten minutes, then power back on — if it restarts normally, thermal cutoff was the cause. Reducing LCD brightness and allowing a few seconds between flash shots will keep draw lower and prevent the cutoff from triggering mid-session.
