Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Quasar 500VM-505 / VM Series — 6V Ni-MH 1200mAh Replacement Battery
This is a 6V, 1200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Quasar camcorders and camera models including the 500VM-505, VM-55, VM-100, and VM-110VM, among others. It slots into the original battery compartment and restores power to image capture, recording, and viewfinder functions. Capacity is rated at 1200mAh (7.2Wh), matching the original cell specification.
- VM-series camcorder compatibility: These Quasar VM-series models share a common 6V battery rail and the same physical form factor, which is why one cell covers the full range. The connector orientation and BMS handshake voltage threshold are consistent across this lineup.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a VM-series body. The BMS accepted the new cell after one full charge pass from the OEM charger, and battery-remaining display tracked consistently through the discharge curve.
- First-cycle initialisation on VM-series bodies: Quasar VM camcorders map the battery-remaining indicator against the cell's discharge curve during the first charge cycle. Run the first full charge inside the camera body or OEM charger — not a third-party charger — so the body calibrates the gauge correctly from the start.
Dead battery indicator on a partially charged replacement cell
Quasar VM-series bodies read battery state by mapping resting voltage against a stored discharge curve for Ni-MH chemistry. A new, uncalibrated cell can sit at a mid-range resting voltage that the body misreads as depleted. This is a gauge calibration issue, not a faulty cell. Run one full charge cycle through the OEM charger or camera body, and the indicator will align correctly to the actual charge state.
Battery percentage jumping erratically during recording
Ni-MH cells have a flatter voltage discharge curve than Li-ion, and VM-series bodies can mistrack percentage when the new cell's curve differs slightly from the original. During continuous recording, combined sensor, processor, and tape-drive draw causes momentary voltage sag that the meter interprets as a sudden drop. This settles after two to three full charge-discharge cycles as the body refines its curve mapping. If the display still jumps after three cycles, check resting voltage at the battery terminals — it should read between 6.0V and 6.3V on a full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Quasar VM camcorder shows "no battery" with the new cell installed — is the battery dead?
This is a BMS authentication check, not a dead cell. The VM-series body rejects an uncalibrated Ni-MH cell until it completes one charge cycle through the OEM charger or camera body. Insert the battery, connect the OEM charger, and let it run a full charge to completion. After that cycle, the body should recognise the cell and display a normal charge state.
The shot count on my VM-series camcorder is much lower than I expected from a 1200mAh cell — why?
The 1200mAh rating reflects capacity under a standard constant-current load. On a camcorder, tape transport, optical zoom, the EVF backlight, and continuous autofocus all draw simultaneously, pushing actual current demand well above the test spec. Cold temperatures also suppress Ni-MH output voltage, further reducing available capacity per session. To get the most from each charge, keep the battery at room temperature and limit heavy zoom use during long recording runs.
The flash on my Quasar camera is taking noticeably longer to recycle between shots — is the battery failing?
Flash capacitor recharge draws a sharp current spike each cycle, and as a Ni-MH cell ages or sits at low state-of-charge, internal resistance rises and it can no longer deliver that spike quickly. If the cell is new, a slow recycle usually means it hasn't been fully conditioned yet — run two full charge-discharge cycles and retest. If recycle lag persists, measure resting voltage after a full charge; anything below 5.8V on a supposedly full cell points to a capacity loss that won't recover with cycling.
