This is an 11.55V, 3500mAh (40.43Wh) lithium-polymer battery for the HP Pavilion 13-bb series, including the 13-bb0005TU, 13-bb0013nf, 13-bb0000nc, and 13-bb0069TU. It replaces OEM part numbers PP03XL, HSTNN-OB1P, HSTNN-DB9X, M01144-005, and related variants. Fits directly into the Pavilion 13-bb chassis without modification.

  • Pavilion 13-bb compatibility: All models in this series run the same 11.55V three-cell configuration with the same Smart Battery connector and BMS handshake protocol. The battery management system communicates charge state, temperature, and health data to the BIOS over SMBus — any cell replacement must match this protocol or the system won't charge correctly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge, full-load discharge, and reconnect on a Pavilion 13-bb unit. The BMS negotiated correctly on first connection, charge current ramped normally, and no fault flags appeared in the SMBus log.
  • First-cycle calibration after swap: After installing, run one full discharge until the laptop hibernates, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without interruption. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on this platform.

Why the Pavilion 13-bb reports poor battery health immediately after a new cell is installed

The HP BIOS stores the previous cell's EEPROM data — cycle count, degradation percentage, and rated Wh — and compares it against the newly connected cell. A fresh cell with a full charge profile looks mismatched against that stored history. The system flags it as unknown or degraded even though the cell is new. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate cycle followed by a complete uninterrupted charge lets the BIOS overwrite the old EEPROM record and accept the new cell's data.

This happens when the cell can no longer sustain voltage under simultaneous CPU and display load — voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold before the fuel gauge reaches zero. The fuel gauge IC calibration is still reading the old cell's discharge curve, so the percentage shown is wrong. After the first full calibration cycle, the gauge maps to the new cell's actual voltage cliff. If shutdowns persist past three full cycles, check that the laptop is not also running a BIOS charge limit set to 80% under HP Command Center.

The battery percentage jumps around wildly — shows 60%, then instantly drops to 15% — what's happening?

The fuel gauge IC on the Pavilion 13-bb uses a learned discharge curve from the old cell. When a new cell is installed, that stored curve no longer matches the new cell's actual voltage profile, so readings are unreliable for the first few cycles. Run two to three full discharge-and-charge cycles without interruption. By the third cycle the gauge IC recalibrates against the new cell and readings stabilise.

Windows shows this battery's capacity as 32Wh in Power settings but the product spec says 40.43Wh — which is correct?

Windows reads the design capacity value from the battery's EEPROM, which may still reflect the previous cell's worn rated capacity or a conservative factory figure from a different cell variant. The 40.43Wh figure in the product data reflects the actual chemistry of this cell. After two full charge cycles, re-check the reported capacity in Windows — open a Command Prompt and run `powercfg /batteryreport` to see both design capacity and full-charge capacity side by side.
