This fits the Kenwood NX-200S, NX-210, NX-300S, NX-410 and replaces OEM part KNB-33L.
This 7.4V 1800mAh lithium-ion cell delivers full transmit power across a full shift without voltage sag.
The battery slides into the radio's rear slot with a keyed connector and locks with a single tab.
We bench-tested the cell on a NX-200S dock; the BMS accepted the new pack on first insertion with no fault light.
On first charge in a Kenwood charger dock, if the light blinks rather than staying green, remove the battery and wipe the gold contacts with a dry cloth before reinserting — the NX platform requires clean electrical handshake to complete initial BMS acceptance.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kenwood NX-200S / NX-300S Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (KNB-33L)

This 7.4V, 1800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the KNB-33L, KNB-41NC, and KNB-54N packs across Kenwood's NX-series portable radio lineup. It fits the NX-200S, NX-210, NX-300S, and NX-410, among others. Voltage and connector match the original spec — no adapters, no modification.

  • NX-200S / NX-300S platform fit: These models share a common battery bay geometry and 7.4V nominal voltage rail. The KNB-33L form factor and contact layout carry across the NX-200 and NX-300 sub-variants, which is why one SKU covers both series without hardware changes.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full charge cycle and PTT stress test on the NX-200S. The BMS held steady through repeated transmit bursts without tripping overcurrent protection, and the charger dock accepted the pack after a single clean contact cycle.
  • Dock insertion on first use: If the charger shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Kenwood NX-series dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before it begins charging.

Why the NX-200S cuts out mid-transmission on a fresh pack

A new Li-ion cell ships at storage voltage — typically around 3.7–3.8V per cell, not the 4.2V peak of a full charge. When you key up on a radio at storage voltage, the transmit current spike can push the BMS into temporary overcurrent cutoff. The radio drops the transmission, then recovers within seconds. This is not a fault — it is the BMS protecting an undercharged cell. Charge the pack fully before your first transmission and the cutout stops.

Bar indicator reads one fewer bar than expected after swap

The NX-series uses a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar maps to a voltage band, not a calibrated capacity reading. A new pack at storage voltage sits at the lower end of the threshold curve, so the radio displays fewer bars than the pack actually holds. This is not a defective cell. Put the pack on charge until the dock goes green, then insert it — the indicator will read correctly at 8.4V full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My NX-200S cuts out every time I press PTT on the new battery — is the pack faulty?

This is a BMS overcurrent response, not a defective pack. The transmit current spike on key-up exceeds what the BMS will pass when the cell is at storage voltage. Charge the battery fully in the dock before first use and the cutout stops. If it continues after a full charge cycle, check that the dock contacts are clean and making solid connection.

The charger dock shows a fault LED and never starts charging after I insert the new KNB-33L — what's wrong?

The Kenwood NX-series dock runs a BMS handshake on insertion before it begins the charge cycle. If the gold contact strip has any residue or the pack isn't fully seated, the dock sees an incomplete signal and throws a fault LED. Remove the pack, wipe the contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it with firm pressure until it clicks. The fault LED should clear within 10 seconds and switch to charging.

The radio drops to low TX power mid-shift even though the battery looked full at the start — what causes that?

Sustained RF output draws significantly more current than standby mode, and voltage sag under that load can push the cell voltage below the radio's reduced-power threshold. This happens faster if the pack has gone through many shallow cycles and cell impedance has risen. Check the dock is reaching a full green-light charge — a pack that never fully charges will sag earlier under transmit load. If the issue persists after confirmed full charges, the cells have reached end of service life and the pack needs replacing.
