Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kyocera 8KX-1 / K-H150 / KB-S820 — 6V 2100mAh Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 6V 2100mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for a range of Kyocera digital cameras including the 8KX-1, K-H150, KB-S820, and KD-70E. It slots into cameras where the original Ni-MH pack has lost the ability to hold a working charge. Capacity is rated at 12.6Wh.

  • Kyocera 8KX-1 series compatibility: These camera models share a common 6V Ni-MH pack format with matching connector pinout and physical dimensions of 88.95 x 47.55 x 20.73mm. The BMS in each body reads cell voltage at insertion — the same nominal 6V rail satisfies the check across the full compatibility list.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge runs on camera-class draw loads. The BMS accepted the cell without faulting, and voltage held consistently above the low-battery cutoff threshold through the discharge curve.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH camera cells: Charge this battery fully inside the OEM charger or camera body before your first shoot. Kyocera camera bodies map the battery-remaining indicator against a charge curve — skipping this step causes the display to show incorrect levels until the cell has completed one full cycle from within the system.

Why the Kyocera 8KX-1 shows a dead battery indicator on a partially charged replacement cell

Kyocera camera bodies track remaining charge by mapping voltage readings to a pre-set discharge curve stored in firmware. A new Ni-MH replacement cell has a slightly different discharge profile compared to the aged original — the body reads an unfamiliar voltage slope and flags it as depleted. This is not a fault with the battery. Running one complete charge cycle inside the camera body or OEM charger re-anchors the indicator to the new cell's actual curve. After that cycle, the remaining-battery display behaves correctly.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the Kyocera camera display

Ni-MH cells have a flatter discharge curve than Li-ion, which makes voltage-based fuel gauging less precise — especially mid-charge when the curve plateaus. If the indicator jumps between readings during a shoot, the camera body is sampling at a flat region of the curve and losing reference. This is more pronounced in cold conditions, where Ni-MH terminal voltage dips temporarily under load. Charge the battery fully to 6V nominal before shooting, and let the body re-sample after the first full cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Kyocera camera won't recognise the new battery at all — just shows a no-battery icon on insert

This is the camera BMS running an insertion voltage check against expected thresholds. A Ni-MH cell that has been in storage can sit at a depressed resting voltage and fail that check on first contact. Place the battery in the OEM charger for 15–30 minutes to bring it up from storage voltage, then reinsert into the camera body — the icon clears once terminal voltage reaches the recognition threshold.

Shot count is much lower than expected even though the battery shows full at the start

Rated capacity figures are measured under a steady, controlled discharge load. In-camera draw pulls from multiple systems simultaneously — image processor, autofocus motor, LCD, and flash capacitor recharge — all running at once. That combined draw is higher than the rating test load, so the cell depletes faster in real shooting conditions. Reduce LCD brightness and limit continuous AF tracking to extend usable capacity per charge.

Flash is taking noticeably longer to recycle between shots compared to the original battery

Flash recycling speed depends on how fast the battery can deliver current to refill the capacitor bank. A Ni-MH cell at the end of a discharge cycle has reduced current delivery, causing the capacitor to recharge more slowly. If this happens early in a session on a fresh charge, check that the cell completed a full charge cycle — an incompletely charged Ni-MH pack behaves like a partially depleted one. Charge fully to 6V nominal before the next shoot.
