Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Ma-Com-Ericsson 10.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (41B025AK00201)
This is a 10.8V, 1200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Ma-Com-Ericsson portable two-way radios. It matches OEM part numbers 41B025AK00201 and 41B025AK00501. Voltage, chemistry, and connector type are matched to the original pack specification.
- Dual OEM part number coverage: The 41B025AK00201 and 41B025AK00501 designations cover the same voltage rail and BMS handshake profile. Both share the same connector footprint and cell configuration, so one replacement pack covers both OEM references without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and load discharge on bench equipment. The BMS held the 10.8V nominal rail cleanly under transmit-level draw, with no overcurrent trip or premature cutoff detected during the cycle.
- Contact strip prep on first dock insertion: If the charger shows a fault LED on first seating, remove the pack and wipe the metal contact strip with a dry cloth. Ma-Com-Ericsson dock chargers require a clean contact surface to complete the BMS handshake before the charge cycle begins — reseating after wiping clears this in most cases.
Why the radio cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly inserted pack
Ni-MH cells ship at storage voltage — typically 1.0–1.1V per cell, which puts a 10.8V nine-cell pack around 9.0–9.9V on arrival. When PTT is pressed, transmit current draw spikes sharply. If the pack voltage is already below the BMS transmit-threshold, the radio's protection circuit trips and drops the output before the transmission completes. This is not a fault in the replacement pack — it is normal BMS behaviour at storage state of charge. Run one full charge cycle before first transmit use, and the cutout will not recur.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after a full charge
Ma-Com-Ericsson portables read battery level by measuring terminal voltage against fixed thresholds — there is no fuel gauge chip involved. A new Ni-MH pack may not stabilise at peak voltage until after the first full charge-and-rest cycle. If the indicator shows one bar fewer than expected immediately after charging, let the pack rest in the radio for 15–20 minutes off-charger. Terminal voltage will settle, and the bar reading will correct itself at or above the expected threshold for the charge level.

Frequently Asked Questions
The charger dock fault LED comes on every time I seat this pack — it never clears to charging. What's wrong?
A new Ni-MH pack arrives at storage voltage, often below the dock's minimum acceptance threshold for Ma-Com-Ericsson chargers. First, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly — a dirty contact is the most common cause of a persistent fault LED. If the LED still does not clear, the pack voltage may be too low for the dock to accept; connect it to a compatible desktop charger that allows manual charge initiation, or trickle-charge at 0.1C until terminal voltage reaches at least 10.0V.
Radio drops to reduced TX power partway through a long shift — pack is fully charged at the start. Why?
Sustained RF transmission draws significantly more current than standby or receive mode. Under that load, Ni-MH cell voltage sags — if the sag is deep enough, the radio's BMS interprets it as low-battery and throttles transmit power to protect the pack. This is more pronounced when ambient temperature is high or when the radio has been in heavy continuous use. To reduce mid-shift voltage sag, avoid holding PTT for extended periods without breaks, and keep the radio away from direct heat sources during operation.
Pack inserted correctly and dock shows charging, but it never reaches full — green light never comes on. What's causing this?
When a Ni-MH pack has been stored for an extended period, cell impedance rises unevenly across the nine cells. The dock's charge termination circuit detects the expected delta-V peak earlier than it should, ending the charge cycle prematurely before the pack is genuinely full. Run two or three full charge-discharge cycles on the radio — each cycle conditions the cells and lowers impedance back toward specification. After conditioning, the dock's termination timing normalises and the green indicator will trigger at the correct endpoint.
