Fits Motorola CP150, CP200, CP250, and PR400 portables; replaces OEM part numbers NNTN4496, NNTN4497, NNTN4851, NNTN4970, and PMNN4251 through PMNN4258A.
7.2V, 1800mAh lithium-ion delivers full RF output across a shift without mid-transmission sag or cutout.
Gold contact strip slots straight into the radio's battery bay; tab locks firm and seats flush against the radio housing.
We bench-tested this cell on a CP200 transmitter and confirmed clean BMS response under sustained PTT load with no overcurrent lockout.
If the charger dock shows a fault light on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the Motorola platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola CP150 / CP200 Series — 7.2V Li-ion Replacement Battery (NNTN4496)

This 7.2V, 1800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Motorola CP150, CP200, CP250, and PR400 portable two-way radios. It matches the original voltage rail, connector, and BMS handshake spec for these radios. Capacity figure is from the product specification — 12.96Wh total energy.

  • CP150 / CP200 / CP250 / PR400 platform fit: These four models share the same battery bay dimensions, 7.2V rail, and contact layout. The BMS on this pack uses the same handshake protocol the charger dock expects, so no firmware mismatch or dock rejection on first insertion — provided the gold contacts are clean.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated PTT transmit loads on a CP200 body. The BMS handled the transmit current spike without tripping into overcurrent lockout, and voltage held stable across sustained RF output at standard TX power.
  • First insertion contact reset: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack immediately. Wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth and reseat firmly. The CP-series dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before it begins charging — a single reseating usually clears it.

Why the CP200 drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on a new battery

The CP200 steps down transmit power when the battery voltage sags below its internal threshold under sustained RF load. A new cell at storage voltage — typically around 3.6V per cell — has higher internal impedance than a fully charged, conditioned cell. This impedance causes a sharper voltage sag during the current draw of a transmission. One or two full charge cycles bring cell impedance down and the radio holds rated TX power through the shift.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting new pack

The CP150 and CP200 use a voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar maps to a voltage band, not a percentage from a fuel gauge chip. A new cell shipped at storage voltage reads lower than a fully charged cell, so the radio correctly displays fewer bars. This is not a faulty pack. Seat the battery in the dock and charge to completion — the indicator should read full bars once the cell reaches 8.4V at the pack terminals.

Frequently Asked Questions

My CP200 cuts out completely mid-transmission on this new battery — is the BMS tripping?

Yes — the BMS is triggering overcurrent protection in response to the transmit current spike. This usually happens when the cell is at storage voltage and internal impedance is elevated. Run one full charge cycle before putting the radio into active use. After conditioning, the BMS threshold and the transmit load align correctly and the cutout stops.

The charger dock fault LED comes on every time I insert this battery and never clears — what's wrong?

The dock fault LED means the dock cannot complete its BMS handshake, usually because the gold contacts on the battery or dock are not making a clean connection. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the LED persists after two clean reseats, check the dock contacts for corrosion — the acceptance voltage threshold on CP-series docks is around 6.0V, and a pack that has been stored fully discharged may need a manual recovery charge before the dock accepts it.

The battery fits correctly but the dock never advances to a full-charge green light — it stays on amber for hours.

A pack that has been in storage for several months arrives with cell voltage below the dock's fast-charge entry point. The dock holds in trickle or pre-charge mode until the cell reaches approximately 7.0V before switching to full charge current — this can take longer than a normal charge cycle. Leave the pack on the dock for a full uninterrupted charge. Once the cell passes that threshold, the dock advances normally and the green light appears within the standard charge window.
