Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola CT150 / CT250 / CT450 Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (HMNN4151)
This is a 7.2V 1800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Motorola CT150, CT250, CT450, and CT450LS two-way radios. It replaces OEM part numbers HMNN4151, HMNN4154, PMNN4018, HNN9008, and over 35 additional Motorola part numbers in this family. Capacity is rated at 1800mAh (12.96Wh) — matched to the original specification.
- CT150 / CT250 / CT450 platform fit: These models share the same battery bay geometry, contact alignment, and 7.2V Ni-MH voltage rail across the series. The BMS handshake and connector pitch are consistent across CT-series units, which is why a single battery covers all three.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on CT-series hardware. The BMS accepted the charge cycle without fault, and the voltage curve tracked the expected Ni-MH plateau through to cutoff — no mid-cycle lockout, no dock rejection.
- First insertion on a CT-series charger dock: If the dock LED shows a fault on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The CT-series charger requires a clean contact cycle to initiate the BMS handshake before current delivery begins.
Why the CT450 cuts out mid-transmission on a fresh battery
Pressing PTT draws a sharp current spike — significantly higher than standby draw — as the radio switches to transmit mode. On a Ni-MH pack at storage voltage, that spike can momentarily drag cell voltage below the radio's undervoltage cutoff threshold. The radio interprets this as a depleted pack and shuts TX. One full charge cycle raises resting voltage high enough that the transmit spike no longer triggers the cutoff.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting a new pack
The CT-series bar indicator reads voltage thresholds — it does not track charge state electronically. A new Ni-MH cell ships at storage voltage, typically around 6.8–7.0V, which sits below the top-bar threshold of approximately 7.2V. The radio displays one or two bars even though the pack is not depleted. After a full charge cycle brings resting voltage up to spec, the indicator will read correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions
The charger dock shows a fault LED every time I insert the new battery — it never starts charging. What's causing it?
The CT-series dock checks contact resistance before allowing current flow. If the gold contact strip on the battery has any oxidation or residue from packaging, the dock reads an open circuit and throws a fault. Remove the battery, wipe the contact strip with a dry lint-free cloth, and reseat it firmly. If the fault clears, the charge cycle will begin within 30 seconds.
My CT450 drops to noticeably weaker audio and TX power about halfway through a shift — the battery still shows bars. What's happening?
This is voltage sag under sustained RF output load. Ni-MH cells deliver their rated voltage cleanly at low draw, but continuous PTT cycles cause cell voltage to droop below the level the radio needs to maintain full TX power. The radio stays on and the bar indicator doesn't change, but output is reduced. Cycle the battery through two full charge/discharge cycles to condition the cells — resting voltage and sag resistance both improve after the first few cycles.
The radio was left unused for several months with this battery installed. Now the dock shows no charge activity at all — no LED, nothing. Is the pack dead?
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–3% per day. After several months of storage inside the radio, the pack may have dropped below the dock's minimum acceptance voltage — typically around 5.5–6V for this series. The dock won't initiate a charge cycle on a pack that reads below that threshold. Use a compatible standalone Ni-MH charger set to a trickle or recovery mode to bring the pack up to approximately 6.5V, then transfer it to the CT-series dock to complete the charge normally.
