Fits Motorola MT2070, MT2090, MT2000, and RFD5500 handheld scanners; replaces OEM part number 82-108066-1.
3.7V, 2400mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 8.88Wh — adequate for full-shift scanning in retail and warehouse pick-and-pack operations.
Connector slides vertically into the scanner battery slot with a single locking tab; ensure contacts face the cradle when seated.
Bench testing showed clean BMS handshake on first cradle charge cycle; no fault codes or cutoff during sustained scan-trigger draws.
Before first shift use, place scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle — scan trigger inrush current peaks at minimum voltage and pre-charging prevents false BMS trips.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola MT2070 / MT2090 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (82-108066-1)

This 3.7V, 2400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Motorola MT2070 and MT2090 handheld barcode scanners. It also fits the MT2000 series and RFD5500 mobile RFID reader. All specs match OEM part numbers 82-108066-1, KT-BTYMT-01R, and 82-108066-01.

  • MT2070 / MT2090 / RFD5500 platform fit: These models share the same battery bay geometry, contact pin layout, and 3.7V BMS handshake. One pack covers the full group — no adapter or modification needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack in an MT2070 cradle and monitored BMS communication through charge and discharge. The protection circuit negotiated correctly with the cradle charger and held cell voltage within spec across repeated scan trigger bursts.
  • First-shift prep for pick-and-pack use: Place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before starting the first shift. Scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell sits near minimum voltage — a pre-charged pack prevents the BMS from tripping on the first rapid burst sequence.

Cradle charging error on a freshly installed pack

MT2070 cradles check contact resistance before starting a charge cycle. A new pack that's been in storage can accumulate oxidation on the gold-plated battery contacts, which pushes resistance above the cradle's acceptance threshold and throws a charging fault. Wipe the three contacts on the battery and the corresponding pins inside the cradle with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the scanner firmly. If the error clears and charging begins, the contacts were the cause — not the pack or the cradle.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The MT2070 runs its Bluetooth radio and scan engine simultaneously during fast pick-and-pack sequences. Combined inrush from both loads can pull cell voltage down sharply enough that the BMS reads an undervoltage event and briefly interrupts output — dropping the wireless link mid-session. This is more likely on a partially discharged pack. Start each shift with the pack fully charged and the cell above 3.6V; that headroom absorbs the combined draw without tripping the protection circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MT2070 won't read barcodes after I swapped in the new battery — laser comes on but scans fail. What's wrong?

The MT2090 and MT2070 scan engines need stable voltage to fire the laser at sufficient intensity for a clean decode — if the cell voltage is below roughly 3.5V after storage, the engine powers up but doesn't read reliably. Place the scanner in the cradle and charge fully before using it. Once the pack is at full charge and the BMS releases output at rated voltage, scan performance returns to normal.

The scanner runs noticeably warm after a long shift — is that a problem with the battery?

Heat during an extended shift is normal on the MT2070 because the housing is compact and encloses both the wireless radio and the scan engine. The battery itself sees sustained combined draw with limited airflow. If the pack feels hot to the touch — not just warm — check that the scan trigger isn't being held continuously, as sustained beam-on draw generates more heat than burst scanning. Return the scanner to the cradle between pick runs to let the cell temperature drop.

The cradle shows a charging error light on this new pack but charges my old battery fine — what do I check first?

Cradle contact resistance is the most common cause. The cradle's charge controller measures resistance at the battery pins before starting — if it reads high, it faults rather than charges. Wipe the contacts on the new pack and the cradle pins with a dry cloth to remove any surface oxidation from storage, then reseat the scanner with firm downward pressure until it clicks. If the charge indicator turns green within 30 seconds, the contact clean fixed it.
