Fits Motorola VZ-D263, VZ-D281, VZ-D288, and VZ-20 models; replaces OEM part CZ088B001.
7.4V lithium-ion delivers 1800mAh capacity for sustained transmission cycles without voltage sag.
Gold contact strip aligns vertically; pack seats firmly into the radio's battery slot with a quarter-turn locking tab.
Bench testing confirmed BMS accepts charge current within 90 seconds of dock insertion; voltage ramp tracks nominal Li-ion profile.
On first insertion into the radio dock, if the fault LED lights, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth—the Motorola platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new cell's BMS handshake before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola VZ-D263 / VZ-D288 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (CZ088B001)

This is a 7.4V, 1800mAh Li-ion battery for the Motorola VZ-D263, VZ-D281, VZ-D288, and VZ-20 portable two-way radios. It uses OEM part number CZ088B001 and slots into the same battery bay as the original pack. Capacity is 1800mAh (13.32Wh) — identical to factory spec.

  • VZ-D263 / VZ-D281 / VZ-D288 / VZ-20 platform fit: These models share the same 7.4V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers the full range without modification or adapters.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through transmit-cycle loads on the VZ-D288 platform. The BMS held stable through repeated PTT bursts and did not trigger overcurrent cutoff under normal RF output conditions.
  • First insertion on the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first seat, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Motorola platform requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.

Why the VZ-D263 cuts out mid-transmission on a new CZ088B001

A new cell ships at storage voltage — typically 3.7V to 3.8V per cell, not full charge. When you key up and hold PTT, transmit current spikes sharply. At storage voltage, the BMS may interpret that spike as an overcurrent event and cut power to protect the cells. This is not a faulty pack. Run one full charge cycle before putting the radio into active use and the BMS trip threshold will sit well above normal transmit draw.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting a new pack

The VZ series uses voltage-threshold bar indicators — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a fuel-gauge calculation. A new pack at storage voltage lands in a lower band and displays fewer bars even though the cells are not depleted. Charge the pack fully in the dock until the LED goes solid green, then reinsert into the radio. At full charge the resting voltage will read above the threshold for the top bar, and the indicator will reflect actual capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

My VZ-D288 cuts out completely when I hold PTT for more than a few seconds — is this the new battery?

Yes, and it is expected on first use. The CZ088B001 ships at storage voltage, typically around 3.7V per cell. A sustained PTT draw at that voltage can cross the BMS overcurrent threshold, triggering a momentary cutoff. Charge the pack fully before your first transmission session — a resting voltage of 8.3V to 8.4V across the pack puts the BMS well clear of that trip point.

The charger dock fault LED never clears after I insert the new pack — it just keeps blinking.

This usually means the dock cannot complete a BMS handshake because the contact strip is not making clean connection. Remove the pack, wipe the three gold contacts with a dry cloth, and reseat with firm downward pressure until you feel it click. If the fault LED persists after reseating, the cell voltage may have dropped below the dock's acceptance threshold during storage — leave it seated for 10 to 15 minutes and the dock will typically recover and begin a trickle charge cycle.

The radio drops to noticeably weaker TX output after heavy use mid-shift, then recovers when I swap the pack out and let it rest.

That is voltage sag under sustained RF load. As the cells discharge, internal impedance rises and terminal voltage dips during high-current transmit bursts. The radio's power control circuit reads that lower voltage and reduces TX output to stay within spec — it is not a radio fault. Keeping a second charged CZ088B001 on rotation prevents mid-shift sag; a fully charged pack at 8.4V will hold output level through a complete shift under normal PTT duty cycles.
