Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola MagOne Z148 / SMP418 / V418D / V468 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (FNB-Z162)
The FNB-Z162 is a 7.4V, 1600mAh Li-ion battery for the Motorola MagOne Z148, SMP418, MagOne V468, and MagOne V418D two-way radios. It matches the OEM voltage rail and connector footprint for each model in this series. Capacity is sourced from the product data — 1600mAh / 11.84Wh.
- MagOne Z148 / SMP418 / V418D / V468 platform fit: These four models share the same battery bay dimensions, 7.4V nominal voltage rail, and side-contact connector layout. The BMS handshake protocol is consistent across the group, so one cell pack covers all four without adapter or modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the MagOne dock and monitored BMS behaviour under simulated PTT load bursts. The protection circuit held cutoff at the expected over-current threshold and recovered cleanly on each cycle without latching fault state.
- First-insertion contact check: If the dock shows a fault LED on initial insertion, remove the battery and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reseating. The MagOne platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging will begin.
Why the MagOne Z148 cuts out mid-transmission on a fresh battery
A new Li-ion cell ships at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.7V per cell, not full charge. When PTT is pressed, transmit current spikes sharply. If the pack hasn't completed its first full charge cycle, the BMS may read that spike as an under-voltage event and cut output. This is not a faulty battery. Run one full charge through the dock before the first shift and the BMS calibrates to the working voltage range correctly.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after swap
The MagOne series uses voltage-threshold bar indicators, not a fuel gauge chip. Each bar corresponds to a fixed voltage window. A new pack at storage voltage sits below the top threshold, so the radio displays one bar fewer than a fully charged pack would show. This is not a capacity defect — it corrects after the first complete charge. Confirm the pack has reached full charge by checking that the dock LED goes solid green before removing it.

Frequently Asked Questions
The MagOne Z148 drops to noticeably weaker audio and RF output partway through a shift — is the battery failing?
This is voltage sag under sustained RF output, not a failing cell. As transmit current draws down the pack mid-shift, terminal voltage drops enough to trigger the radio's reduced-power threshold. It happens faster if the pack wasn't fully charged before the shift started. Charge the battery until the dock LED goes solid green before use — a pack left at 80% will sag earlier under TX load.
The charger dock blinks a fault LED and never starts charging after inserting the new FNB-Z162 — what's wrong?
The dock is rejecting the BMS handshake because the contact strip isn't making a clean connection. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the dock with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly. If the fault LED persists after that, check that the pack voltage reads above 6.0V with a multimeter — a pack that dropped below the dock acceptance threshold during storage will need a recovery charge from a compatible external charger before the dock will accept it.
The new battery sits inserted correctly but the dock never advances past amber to green — how long should charging actually take?
A 1600mAh Li-ion pack at storage voltage typically takes longer on the first charge than subsequent cycles because the BMS is accepting current conservatively until it maps the cell range. If the dock has been on amber for more than three hours without advancing, remove the pack and check that the contact strip is fully seated — partial contact causes the dock to trickle-charge indefinitely without completing. Reseat the pack with firm pressure until you feel it click into the battery bay, then reinsert into the dock.
