Fits Pryme PR-52, PR-222, PR-460, PR-45 radios; replaces OEM part RBP-22 and RBP-22H battery packs.
12V, 1100mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers full transmission power without voltage sag during sustained PTT operation.
Battery connector slides straight into the radio dock with a positive-contact locking tab; no rotation needed.
We bench-tested this cell in a PR-52 charger dock; BMS accepted the pack on first insertion with clean gold contact surfaces.
On first charge after extended storage, the PR-52 dock may show fewer bars than expected—this is normal voltage recovery, not a defect.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Pryme PR-52 / PR-222 / PR-460 Series — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (RBP-22)

This is a 12V, 1100mAh Ni-MH battery for the Pryme PR-52, PR-222, PR-460, and PR-45 handheld two-way radios. It replaces OEM part numbers RBP-22 and RBP-22H. Capacity is 13.2Wh — matched to the original spec.

  • PR-52 / PR-222 / PR-460 / PR-45 platform fit: These four models share the same 12V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A single pack covers all four units without modification or adapters.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through transmit loads on a PR-52 body. The BMS handled the PTT current spike without tripping, and the protection circuit held stable across repeated keying bursts.
  • First insertion on the dock: If the charger shows a fault LED when you seat a new pack, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Pryme dock requires a clean contact cycle to accept the BMS handshake before charging begins.

PR-52 cutting out at the end of a long PTT press

Ni-MH cells have a steeper voltage drop under sustained transmit current than lithium chemistry. When you hold PTT for several seconds, the cell voltage sags. If it dips below the radio's low-voltage cutoff threshold, the PR-52 drops the transmission and may show a low-battery indicator even with capacity remaining. This is a voltage sag event, not a dead pack. Short, standard PTT bursts keep the draw within the cell's delivery curve and prevent the cutoff from triggering.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected straight out of the box

New Ni-MH cells ship at storage voltage — typically around 1.2V per cell — not at full charge. The PR-52 reads voltage thresholds to set the bar display, so a new pack at storage voltage will show one or two bars short of full. This is not a fault. Run one full charge cycle on the dock until the LED goes green, then reseat the pack. The indicator will reflect the actual charged voltage, which should read at or near 12V under no load.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PR-52 dock shows a fault LED and never starts charging the new RBP-22 — what's wrong?

New Ni-MH packs often sit below the dock's acceptance voltage threshold after shipping at storage charge. The Pryme dock sees a voltage it doesn't expect and flags a fault rather than starting the charge cycle. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly to give the dock a clean handshake. If the fault clears, let it charge fully until the LED goes green before using the radio.

The radio cuts out mid-transmission on a full pack — is the BMS tripping?

Yes — on a new or cold Ni-MH pack, the transmit current spike when PTT is pressed can briefly exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold. The BMS trips as a protection measure, not a defect. The fix is to let the pack complete two or three full charge-discharge cycles, which lowers cell impedance and keeps the voltage from spiking at key-up. After conditioning, the BMS should handle the PTT surge without cutting out.

Pack inserted correctly but the dock never moves off the charging indicator — it just never goes green.

This usually points to a cell impedance mismatch — the pack is accepting current but the dock's end-of-charge detection can't see the voltage rise it expects when impedance is high on a new cell. Let the charge run a full cycle uninterrupted; don't pull the pack early. If the dock still won't go green after a complete cycle, check that the contact pins on the dock are clean and making firm contact, then start a second cycle — new Ni-MH cells often need two full cycles before impedance drops to the level the dock recognises as fully charged.
