Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Puritan Bennett Renaissance II — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (P-495219-00)
This 4.8V, 1800mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the OEM pack in the Puritan Bennett Renaissance II portable oxygen concentrator. It fits the Renaissance II, model 49221900, and PB700 platforms. Voltage and capacity match the original specification — the concentrator's compressor and oxygen generation system draw exactly what this cell is rated to supply.
- Renaissance II / PB700 platform compatibility: These models share the same 4.8V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell pack covers all three listed variants without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the Renaissance II's full charge-discharge profile. The BMS accepted the cell on first insertion, completed its verification handshake, and held charge without triggering a fault code across multiple load cycles.
- Post-swap self-test protocol: After installing this battery, let the Renaissance II complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification sequence at startup — cutting power during this window writes a false battery fault to memory that persists until a complete reboot and clean restart.
Why the Renaissance II alarms low battery with a freshly charged replacement installed
The Renaissance II BMS calibrates its charge threshold against the OEM cell's established charge curve. A new Ni-MH cell hasn't built that history yet — its internal resistance reads slightly higher on the first few cycles, which the BMS interprets as a low-capacity pack. This is a learn-cycle artefact, not a fault with the replacement cell. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle and the BMS recalibrates its baseline. The alarm clears on its own once the cell passes the internal threshold check, typically after that first full cycle.
Renaissance II won't power on after the replacement cell sat in storage
Ni-MH cells self-discharge over time, and a pack that's been sitting in storage may drop below the Renaissance II's BMS recovery threshold — typically around 4.0V for a 4.8V pack. Below that voltage, the BMS treats the cell as damaged and blocks startup to protect the concentrator's electronics. Place the pack on charge for a full uninterrupted cycle before attempting to power on the device. If the charger indicates a fault rather than charging, check the pack voltage with a multimeter — a reading above 3.8V means the BMS can still recover the cell with a slow charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Renaissance II shows a low battery alarm the moment it powers on, but I just took the replacement pack off a full charge — what's wrong?
The device BMS is comparing the new cell's charge profile against its stored OEM baseline, and the new Ni-MH cell's resistance signature doesn't match it yet. This causes the BMS to flag the pack as low even when it's fully charged. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle on the Renaissance II before clinical use — the BMS recalibrates its threshold after that cycle and the alarm clears. Do not interrupt the power-on self-test during this first cycle, or the fault persists into the next boot.
The Renaissance II shuts off mid-use without warning — the battery indicator showed plenty of charge just before it cut out.
The concentrator's compressor creates load spikes that stress new Ni-MH cells harder in the first 10 cycles than the steady-state indicator suggests. The BMS reads a voltage sag under compressor load as a hard cutoff condition and shuts the device down to protect the oxygen delivery system. This behaviour reduces significantly after the cell builds its internal resistance baseline across several full cycles. Complete at least three full charge-discharge cycles before relying on this pack for extended or uninterrupted oxygen therapy sessions.
The charge indicator on my Renaissance II never reaches 100% on the first charge with the new battery — is the cell defective?
It isn't defective. The charge IC applies a conservative current limit on cells it hasn't profiled yet, which extends the first charge cycle and keeps the indicator from hitting 100% until the cell's charge acceptance curve is established. Let the first charge run to completion without removing the pack from the charger — even if the indicator stalls below full. On the second charge cycle, the IC adjusts its limit and the indicator will reach 100% at the correct time.
