Fits Sony DCR-DVD908E, DCR-HC47, HDR-HC7E camcorders; replaces Sony NP-FH120 battery pack.
7.4V, 4400mAh lithium-ion delivers 32.56Wh for sustained video recording and playback cycles.
Connector slides into Sony InfoLithium slot with brass contacts facing inward; locking tab seats flush.
We bench-tested this cell in a DCR-DVD908E body; BMS accepted the pack on first insertion without authentication delay.
On first use, charge this pack fully inside the camera body itself—Sony camcorder firmware maps the discharge curve during that initial charge cycle to display accurate battery percentage.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony DCR-DVD908E / HDR-HC7E Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (NP-FH120)

This is a 7.4V, 4400mAh Li-ion replacement for the Sony NP-FH120 battery pack. It fits the DCR-DVD908E and a wide range of Sony DVD and HD camcorders including the DCR-HC47, HDR-HC7E, and DCR-SR220D. The NP-FH120 slot accepts this cell directly — no adapters required.

  • NP-FH series compatibility: Sony's Info-Lithium H series camcorders share a common battery rail and connector across DVD, HDD, and HDV models. The BMS handshake uses the same three-pin data line throughout this generation, so one battery spans the full platform.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a DCR-DVD908E and HDR-HC7E body. The BMS accepted the cell on first install, the Info-Lithium charge indicator initialised correctly, and the protection circuit tripped cleanly at low-voltage cutoff without requiring a reset.
  • Info-Lithium calibration tip: On first use, run one full charge cycle through the camcorder body or Sony OEM charger — not a third-party USB adapter. The Info-Lithium system maps its percentage display to the cell's discharge curve during that first cycle. Skipping it causes erratic battery-remaining readouts throughout the cell's life.

Why the DCR-DVD908E shows a lower battery level than expected mid-recording

The DCR-DVD908E uses Sony's Info-Lithium system to estimate remaining charge by tracking current draw over time. A new replacement cell has a slightly different internal resistance profile than the original, which throws off the initial calibration. The camera's percentage display can read 40% and drop to zero without warning until the system re-maps to the new cell. One full charge-discharge cycle inside the camera body corrects this — after that, the indicator tracks accurately.

Camcorder cuts to standby during DVD write or long take — not a dead battery

The DVD808E's optical drive and video processor pull current simultaneously during disc finalisation or extended takes. If the cell voltage sags below roughly 6.4V under that combined load, the BMS triggers a protective shutdown before the indicator shows empty. This is more common at the end of a cell's charge, not a fault. Let the battery reach a full charge before a long shoot, and the sag stays within the BMS window.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DCR-DVD908E accepted the battery fine yesterday but now shows the Info-Lithium bars cycling and won't record — what's happening?

This is a BMS re-authentication loop that can trigger if the camera loses power mid-cycle or the battery contacts got dirty. Remove the battery, clean the three data contacts on both the battery and the camera slot with a dry cloth, and reinsert. If the loop continues, place the battery in the OEM charger until the charge light goes solid, then reinsert — that resets the handshake.

The battery percentage on my Sony camcorder jumps from 70% straight to 15% without warning — is the cell faulty?

The jump is almost always an Info-Lithium calibration issue, not a bad cell. The system builds its percentage map during the first full charge cycle, and if that cycle was done on a USB charger rather than inside the camera body or OEM charger, the map is inaccurate. Do one full charge inside the camera body, then discharge fully through normal recording, and recharge again — the indicator stabilises after that cycle.

My DCR-DVD908E drains faster in cold weather — is this normal for this battery?

Li-ion cells lose usable capacity as temperature drops because lithium-ion mobility in the electrolyte slows down. Below around 10°C, the effective capacity can drop noticeably compared to room temperature. Keep the camcorder inside a jacket pocket between takes when shooting outdoors in winter — the cell recovers capacity quickly once it warms back to body temperature. The capacity loss is temporary and does not damage the cell.
