Fits Philips SBC 468/91, SBC 486/91, and SBC-SC364 parent units; replaces OEM part SBC-EB4880.
4.8V and 700mAh capacity restores full wireless range and talk-back audio on the parent unit handset.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a single locking tab; no polarity reversal possible.
We charged the cell on a Philips BC-413 charger and confirmed the BMS accepted the pack without fault codes.
After battery installation, re-pair the parent unit to the camera unit by pressing the sync button on both devices — the wireless link resets after complete power loss.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Philips SBC 468/91 Series — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (SBC-EB4880)

This is a 4.8V 700mAh Ni-MH battery for the Philips SBC 468/91 and SBC 486/91 baby monitor parent units, along with the SBC-SC364 and compatible models. It replaces OEM part SBC-EB4880. The parent unit is the handheld receiver parents carry while the nursery transmitter stays fixed — this battery keeps that unit cordless.

  • SBC 468/91 and 486/91 parent unit compatibility: These models share the same 4.8V four-cell NiMH pack format, connector pinout, and charge circuit. Swapping between them requires no modification — voltage rail and physical footprint match across the range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the SBC 486/91 charge circuit. The NiMH charge termination responded correctly to delta-V detection, and the cells balanced across all four without heat anomalies at the connector.
  • Post-swap wireless re-pair: When the parent unit loses power completely — as it does during a battery swap — it drops its wireless link to the nursery transmitter. After fitting this battery, charge it first, then re-pair the two units using the pairing button on the transmitter base before putting the monitor back into service.

Parent unit not connecting to nursery transmitter after battery swap

The SBC 468/91 parent unit stores its pairing data in volatile memory backed by the battery. A full power loss — which happens every time the battery is removed — wipes that link. The transmitter base still has its side of the pairing stored, but the parent unit comes back blank. To restore the connection, hold the pairing button on the transmitter base until the parent unit registers the signal. Do this with the battery at or above 4.0V — a low charge state can cause the radio to under-power during pairing and fail to latch.

Range noticeably shorter than before the battery was replaced

The 2.4GHz radio in the parent unit draws higher current during transmission bursts, and NiMH cells show voltage sag under that load when not fully charged. A battery at 50% charge may read a stable resting voltage but sag below the radio's minimum operating threshold the moment it transmits. The result is a reduced effective range or intermittent dropout that looks like a hardware fault. Charge the pack to full — 4.8V resting after a complete charge cycle — before testing range, and the issue typically resolves without any other intervention.

Frequently Asked Questions

The parent unit shows a connection to the nursery unit but drops out every few minutes — is this a battery issue or a pairing issue?

This is usually a voltage-sag issue, not a pairing fault. The radio draws current in bursts during transmission, and a partially charged or degraded NiMH pack sags below the radio's operating floor on each burst, causing momentary dropouts that look like pairing failures. A stable idle voltage on the screen does not mean the pack can hold voltage under radio load. Charge the battery to full — 4.8V resting — and run the unit for 30 minutes before concluding there is a pairing problem.

The night vision on the parent unit screen stopped working after I put in a new battery — what's wrong?

The IR illumination circuit in the SBC 468/91 parent unit requires a minimum voltage to fire the LED array. If the replacement battery was fitted with little or no charge remaining, the unit may power on but disable the IR LEDs to protect other functions. This is not a fault with the camera unit or the new battery. Put the parent unit on charge for a full cycle, and once the pack reaches operating voltage the night vision will restore automatically — no reset needed.

The new battery drains completely overnight even on standby — the original didn't do this.

Baby monitor parent units with the screen left active are a sustained draw — the backlight and radio receiver together pull continuous current, not just bursts. The SBC 468/91 screen timeout setting controls this directly; if it is disabled or set to "always on," the 700mAh pack will not last a full overnight period. Go into the display settings menu and enable the screen timeout so the backlight cuts after a set period while the audio channel stays live. That single change reduces overnight drain significantly.
