Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Opticon H1 — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (CC-CR2AGH1-01)
This is a 4.8V, 1000mAh Ni-MH battery pack for the Opticon H1 handheld barcode scanner. It fits the H1 directly, restoring full scanning functionality in retail, warehouse, and inventory environments. Capacity figure is sourced from the product data — 4.8Wh total energy.
- H1 scanner platform fit: The H1 uses a compact Ni-MH cell pack at 4.8V to power both the scan engine and onboard processing logic. This pack matches that voltage rail and connector arrangement, so the device firmware and charge circuitry behave as expected with the original pack.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the H1 platform. The BMS accepted the pack without fault codes, and the scan trigger drew current cleanly from rest without voltage sag triggering a low-battery cutoff.
- First-shift preparation for pick-and-pack use: Place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before the first use on the floor. Scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum charge, and a fully charged pack prevents false cutoffs during the first burst-scan session of the shift.
Cradle showing a charging error after fitting a new pack
Charging errors on the H1 dock after a pack swap are almost always a contact resistance issue, not a cell fault. The dock uses spring-loaded contacts that pick up oxidation and debris over time. When contact resistance rises, the charger circuit sees an incomplete connection and flags an error rather than beginning a charge cycle. Wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the cradle with a dry lint-free cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and the error should clear within 30 seconds.
Scanner stops reading barcodes mid-shift even with battery showing charge
The H1 scan engine needs the voltage to stay above a minimum threshold to fire the laser or imager at full power. As a Ni-MH pack ages or if a new pack is installed without a full charge, voltage drops under scan trigger inrush even when the charge indicator still shows green. The result is a partial or failed read — the scanner appears on but the scan engine is brownout-limited. Charge the pack fully in the cradle until the charge LED goes solid, then retest; a healthy pack should hold above 4.4V under repeated trigger pulls.

Frequently Asked Questions
My H1 scanner keeps dropping its wireless connection during fast barcode scanning — is the battery causing this?
Yes, this is a combined draw problem. The scan trigger and the wireless radio both pull current at the same moment during a rapid scan burst, and if the pack voltage sags under that combined load, the radio drops its connection before the scan engine does. We saw this behaviour on the bench when testing a partially discharged pack — the wireless module is the first to lose power headroom. Charge the pack fully before the shift and the sag stays within the radio's operating threshold.
The H1 feels noticeably warm after a long warehouse shift — is that a sign the battery is failing?
Some warmth is normal — the H1 housing is compact and the Ni-MH chemistry generates more heat during discharge than Li-ion. But if the pack is hot to the touch rather than just warm, the cell is working harder than it should, which usually means capacity has dropped and the scanner is drawing the same current over fewer active cells. Check shift endurance — if it's shorter than the previous pack, the cell has degraded. Swap to a fresh pack and return the warm one; continued use in a degraded state accelerates the decline.
The new pack charged overnight in the cradle but the scanner still cuts out earlier in the shift than the old battery did — what's going on?
Ni-MH cells need a few full charge-discharge cycles to reach rated capacity after sitting in storage. A pack that ships unused may deliver only 70–80% of its 1000mAh on the first cycle. Run two or three complete cycles — full charge in the cradle, then use until the low-battery warning fires, then charge again fully — and shift endurance should improve with each cycle to reach the rated 4.8Wh.
