Psion Workabout cradles use contact-based charging, and any oxidation or debris on the battery's gold contacts creates enough resistance to trigger a fault. The cradle reads this as a pack rejection rather than a contact issue, so it flags an error instead of starting the charge cycle. Wipe the pack contacts and the cradle rails with a dry lint-free cloth, then firmly reseat the scanner. If the error clears, the contacts were the cause — not the pack or the dock electronics.

During a rapid scan burst, the imager and the RF radio draw current simultaneously. On a degraded or deeply discharged pack, that combined inrush pulls the cell voltage below the radio module's minimum operating threshold — the wireless link drops before the scan trigger even completes. This is a load-spike issue, not a signal issue. Charge the pack fully before the shift and confirm cell voltage sits above 2.3V under load; if connection drops persist on a fully charged pack, the cells have degraded and the pack needs replacement.
