Fits Symbol MC17, MC17T, MC17A handheld scanners; replaces BTRY-MC17RAB0E-50, BTRY-MC17RAB0E, 82-97131-03, 82-97131-01.
3.7V, 2200mAh lithium-ion cell restores full scan power and wireless range on inventory and asset-tracking operations.
Connector slides straight into battery slot with spring latch; no adapter needed for MC17 cradle dock.
We bench-tested the cell on rapid-fire barcode capture; BMS accepted load current without early shutdown or thermal cutoff.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for one full charge cycle before field use — the scan trigger inrush is highest near minimum voltage and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips on first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Symbol MC17 / MC17T / MC17A — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BTRY-MC17RAB0E-50)

This 3.7V, 2200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Symbol MC17, MC17T, and MC17A handheld mobile computers. These scanners are used in inventory, asset tracking, and point-of-sale environments where uptime matters. The pack matches the original voltage rail and connector spec for the MC17 platform.

  • MC17 platform compatibility: The MC17, MC17T, and MC17A share the same battery bay, BMS handshake protocol, and 3.7V power rail. One replacement pack covers all three variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on the MC17 platform. The BMS reported correct cell state, charge termination fired at the right threshold, and the scanner OS recognised the pack without errors.
  • Cradle charge before first shift: After installing a new pack, seat the MC17 in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before pulling it for pick-and-pack. Scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum — a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.

Cradle showing charging error on a new pack

MC17 docks use spring contacts that press against gold pads on the battery. If those contacts have oxidation or debris on them, charge current cannot flow cleanly and the dock flags a fault. Wipe the battery contact pads with a dry cloth and reseat the pack firmly into the cradle. If the error clears, the dock contacts are the culprit, not the battery. If the dock still faults after two clean reseats, check the cradle contacts with a multimeter — you're looking for continuity below 0.5 ohms across each pin.

Scanner dropping wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

During fast scan sequences, the MC17 draws simultaneously from the imager and the 802.11 radio. Combined inrush can cause a brief voltage sag at the cell terminals. If the cell voltage dips below the BMS low-voltage threshold during that combined draw, the BMS cuts the load to protect the cell — and the radio drops first because it draws less priority than the scan engine. This is more common at low state of charge. Keep the pack above 30% state of charge during high-frequency scan shifts to avoid the sag window.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MC17 scanner stopped reading barcodes right after I swapped in the new battery — what's wrong?

The imager needs a minimum voltage to fire reliably, and a new pack straight out of packaging may sit at a partial state of charge. Seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before use. Once the pack is fully charged, the imager draw stays within spec and scanning resumes normally. If the scanner still won't read after a full charge, check that the battery contacts are fully seated — a loose pack causes intermittent imager dropout.

My MC17 gets warm after a long pick-and-pack shift — is that a problem with the battery?

Heat on the MC17 during extended shifts comes from sustained scan trigger draw combined with continuous 802.11 radio polling inside an enclosed housing — both loads run off the same cell. This is normal operating behaviour, not a fault. The BMS will cut the load if the cell temperature exceeds safe limits, so monitor whether the scanner is shutting down mid-shift rather than just warming up. If it is shutting down, reduce scan frequency and allow the unit to cool for five minutes before resuming.

This battery doesn't seem to last as long as my old original pack — what's draining it faster?

Scan burst frequency and wireless polling interval are the two biggest draws on the MC17, and both scale with how the device is configured. Check the 802.11 power-save settings in the MC17's wireless profile — aggressive polling intervals shorten endurance significantly even when the scanner is idle between scans. Also confirm the new pack was fully charged before first use; a cell that never reached full charge on its first cycle will show lower usable capacity until it completes two or three full cycles. Run two complete charge-discharge cycles from the cradle and recheck endurance on the third shift.
