Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Symbol PDT8100 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (DT-5023BAT)
This 3.7V 3600mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Symbol PDT8100, PDT8134, PDT8137, and PDT8140 handheld barcode scanners, along with 40+ additional PDT8100-series variants. It uses OEM part references DT-5023BAT, DT-5024LBAT, CA50601-1000, and 21-58236-01. The physical dimensions are 57.40 × 36.67 × 24.15mm — verify your current pack before ordering.
- PDT8100 platform compatibility: The PDT8100 series shares a common battery bay geometry and 3.7V single-cell architecture across its variants. Each model uses the same connector footprint and BMS handshake protocol, which is why one pack covers the full range — the voltage rail and communication lines are identical across the platform.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on a PDT8134 unit and cycled through rapid scan-and-transmit sequences. The BMS held charge delivery steady through combined laser and radio inrush events without tripping the protection circuit.
- First-shift cradle protocol: After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before use in pick-and-pack operations. Scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum voltage, and starting from a fully charged cell prevents false BMS trips during the first shift.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack
The PDT8100 cradle communicates with the battery pack through pogo-pin contacts on the base of the scanner. If those contacts have oxidation or debris from the previous pack, the dock reads elevated contact resistance and flags a charging fault rather than the new pack itself. Wipe the three contacts on both the scanner base and the cradle dock with a dry cloth before reseating. If the error clears on the second seating, the contacts were the cause — not the battery.
Scanner drops wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
On the PDT8100, the laser module and the 802.11b radio draw simultaneously during a fast scan burst — scan trigger fires, then the unit immediately transmits the decoded data. A degraded or deeply discharged cell cannot supply both loads without a voltage sag that drops the radio below its minimum operating threshold, causing the wireless link to drop. This does not happen because of interference — it is a supply-side issue. Fully charge the new pack before the first shift and confirm the cell voltage reads above 3.6V before deploying.

Frequently Asked Questions
My PDT8100 scanner stops reading barcodes right after I swap the battery — laser fires but nothing decodes. What's wrong?
The laser module needs a stable voltage to fire at sufficient intensity for the decoder to process the return signal. When the new pack is at a low state of charge, the cell voltage sags under laser inrush and the scan engine gets less power than it needs. Place the scanner in its cradle and charge it fully before use — the symptom disappears once the cell is above 3.6V.
The scanner runs fine for the first part of a shift, then the wireless connection keeps dropping during back-to-back scans. The battery still shows charge. What's causing it?
Fast scan sequences hit the battery with combined laser and radio transmit loads at the same time. Even a cell that reads as "charged" on the indicator can sag under that simultaneous draw if it has cycled many times or was stored at low voltage for an extended period. Swap in the new pack fully charged and confirm stable link performance across a full scan burst. If the drop still occurs, check that the 802.11b network channel is not saturated — but in most cases, the power delivery issue resolves it.
After a few weeks of use, the new battery seems to be draining faster than it should compared to the old pack when it was newer. Is something wrong with this pack?
Shallow charge cycles — topping up when the scanner is only partially discharged, then pulling it off the cradle early — lead to capacity fade faster than full cycles do in Li-ion cells. The PDT8100 sees this pattern often in high-volume scanning environments where the cradle is used opportunistically between tasks. Run two full charge-to-depletion cycles to recalibrate the cell and reset the usage pattern. After that, let the scanner discharge to the low-battery indicator before cradle charging where workflow allows.
