Fits Zebra QL220, QL220+, QL320, QL320+ mobile label printers; replaces OEM part numbers AT16004-1 and H16004-LI.
7.4V and 2200mAh capacity delivers the same watt-hours as the original pack for uninterrupted field printing during shipping label and barcode operations.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a single locking tab; no adapters or modifications needed.
We ran full charge cycles on bench with no BMS fault codes; cell discharged cleanly to cutoff on sustained print jobs without voltage sag.
After installing this pack, seat it in the printer cradle for one full charge cycle before field use—the print mechanism draws peak inrush current on first power-up and a pre-charged cell prevents early BMS shutdown during the opening print job.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Zebra QL220 / QL320 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AT16004-1)

This 7.4V, 2200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in Zebra QL220, QL220+, QL320, and QL320+ mobile label printers. These printers run in retail stockrooms, warehouses, and logistics hubs where uninterrupted printing keeps operations moving. The cell matches the original voltage rail and connector so the printer's BMS accepts the pack without reconfiguration.

  • QL220 and QL320 platform compatibility: The QL220 and QL320 share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and 7.4V BMS handshake. One pack covers both printer generations — including the Plus variants — without any adapter or firmware change.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through continuous print jobs on QL220 hardware and monitored the BMS response across full charge-to-cutoff sequences. The protection circuit held stable cutoff at the correct low-voltage threshold with no false trips during peak thermal draw.
  • First-shift prep for mobile label printing: After installing this pack, run a full charge in the printer's cradle before the first print job. The print head and motor draw a combined inrush current that can trip the BMS if the cell starts near minimum — a fully charged cell prevents nuisance shutdowns at the start of a shift.

Why the QL220 shuts down mid-print on a new battery

The QL220 print head and paper feed motor fire simultaneously during a label print cycle, creating a short inrush spike that exceeds steady-state draw by a significant margin. If a new pack ships with a partial factory charge, the BMS can interpret that spike as an overcurrent event and cut power. This is a BMS protection response, not a defective battery. Charge the pack to 8.2V before the first print run to clear this condition.

Cradle showing a charging error after fitting the new pack

A charging error on the cradle display almost always comes from contact resistance at the battery terminals, not a fault with the pack itself. Dust, label adhesive residue, and handling oils all accumulate on the gold contacts on both the battery and the cradle dock. Wipe the battery contacts and the cradle contacts with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the pack firmly until you hear it click. If the error clears within 30 seconds, contact resistance was the cause — the pack is fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

My QL220 prints one label then shuts off — is this the battery or the printer?

This is almost always a BMS trip caused by inrush current during the first print cycle on a low-charge pack. The print head and motor firing together pull a spike the BMS reads as overcurrent when the cell voltage is below roughly 7.0V. Charge the battery fully in the cradle first — 8.2V at the terminals — then retry. If the printer shuts down again at full charge, the issue shifts to the printer's motor drive circuit.

The QL320 loses its wireless connection every time we do a rapid scan or print burst — why?

The QL320's wireless radio and print motor draw current simultaneously during a burst, and if the cell has aged or is partially discharged, voltage sags enough to cause the radio module to drop its connection. We measured this behaviour on the bench — voltage sag during combined radio and motor draw can briefly dip below the radio's operating floor. Keep the battery above 50% charge during high-frequency print sessions. If sag-related drops persist on a fresh fully-charged pack, check that the battery contacts are clean and seated firmly.

After a full shift, the battery comes out noticeably warm — is that normal?

Sustained print-head cycling in the enclosed QL220 housing generates heat from both the cell and the thermal print head, so some warmth is expected. What matters is the degree — a pack that is hot to the touch (uncomfortable to hold) signals the cell is working harder than it should, often because contact resistance is adding resistive heating. Wipe the battery and cradle contacts, confirm the pack seats flush with no debris under it, and check that ambient storage temperature between shifts stays below 25°C.
