Fits Intermec CN50 and CN51 handheld scanners; replaces OEM part 318-039-001 and equivalent AB25, AB24, 318-052-001, 318-052-011, 318-039-012.
3.7V, 4600mAh Li-ion cell delivers 17.02Wh — enough capacity to sustain continuous barcode capture and wireless polling across a full warehouse shift without mid-day dock time.
Connector seats vertically into the battery slot with a spring-latch retention tab; orientation is fixed and cannot be reversed on the CN50 dock.
We bench-tested the pack on a CN50 dock simulator; BMS accepted the charge handshake cleanly and held regulation under sustained scan-trigger inrush loads without cutoff.
Place the scanner in its cradle for one complete charge cycle before field deployment — scan trigger inrush is highest when the cell reaches minimum voltage, and a pre-charged pack prevents false BMS shutdowns during the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Intermec CN50 / CN51 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (318-039-001)

This 3.7V 4600mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Intermec CN50 and CN51 handheld mobile computers. These units are used for barcode scanning, inventory data collection, and wireless stock management in retail and warehouse environments. Voltage and capacity match the original specification exactly.

  • CN50 and CN51 compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A single cell pack covers either unit — no adapter or wiring change needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through scan-trigger inrush and active Wi-Fi polling simultaneously. The BMS held stable across repeated burst events without tripping into protection mode.
  • First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before the first pick-and-pack shift. Scan trigger inrush is highest when the cell is near minimum voltage — a fully charged pack prevents false BMS protection trips during the first hour of heavy scanning.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

The CN50 cradle reads battery state through gold pogo contacts on the base of the scanner. If any contact has oxidation or warehouse dust on it, the dock reports a fault even though the pack itself is fine. Wipe both the cradle contacts and the battery terminals with a dry cloth, reseat the scanner, and the charging indicator should clear within 30 seconds. If the error persists across two reseat attempts, check that the cradle firmware is current — older dock firmware can misread the voltage handshake from a fresh cell reporting full capacity.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The CN50 draws from the battery for both the imager and the Wi-Fi radio simultaneously during a scan burst. When the cell is partially depleted, combined inrush from the scan trigger and radio transmit pulse can cause momentary voltage sag, and the radio drops its association with the access point. This appears as a freeze or missed scan rather than an obvious disconnect. Keep the battery above 30% charge during high-throughput shifts — at that level, the cell's internal resistance is low enough to supply both loads without the voltage rail dipping below the radio's minimum operating threshold of approximately 3.2V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My CN50 won't read barcodes right after I swapped the battery — is the scanner broken?

The imager and laser in the CN50 need the cell above a minimum voltage before they fire at full power. A new pack shipped in storage state can sit at 3.3–3.4V, which is enough for the unit to boot but not enough for consistent scan trigger performance. Place the scanner in the cradle and charge it to 100% before use — barcode reads should return to normal once the cell reaches 3.7V.

The CN50 runs noticeably warmer than usual during a long shift — should I be concerned?

Sustained heat in the CN50 housing comes from the combined load of continuous scanning and Wi-Fi polling inside a compact plastic enclosure with limited airflow. The battery itself generates heat as it delivers current, and this compounds with the radio and processor draw. Check that the ventilation slots on the unit are not blocked and that the scanner is not stored in a pouch between scans on heavy shifts. If the housing becomes uncomfortable to hold rather than just warm, dock the unit and let it cool for 10 minutes before continuing — sustained heat above the BMS threshold will trigger a protection cutoff.

The CN50 used to last a full shift but now dies well before end of shift — what changed?

Shallow charge cycles degrade Li-ion capacity faster than deep ones in high-scan-frequency environments. If the scanner is docked briefly between tasks and pulled off charge at 80–90% repeatedly, the cell never completes a full cycle and the BMS loses accurate capacity calibration. Run two full charge-to-100% and use-to-20% cycles after fitting this replacement pack — this lets the BMS recalibrate its state-of-charge tracking and gives you an accurate read of available shift endurance from the first week of use.
