Fits Zebra SMB K3/470 scanner; replaces OEM battery for mobile data collection in retail and warehouse environments.
3.7V 1500mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 5.55Wh — sufficient for full-shift scanning and wireless connectivity without midday swaps.
Connector seats vertically into scanner grip; locking tab engages flush against housing to prevent accidental ejection during rapid pick-and-pack cycles.
We ran load cycles with the BMS under combined scan trigger and 802.11 radio draw; cell held voltage curve stable and showed no premature cutoff.
After installation, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before active use — scan trigger inrush is highest when the cell sits near minimum, and a pre-charged pack prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Zebra SMB K3/470 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 3.7V 1500mAh Li-ion battery for the Zebra SMB K3/470 barcode scanner. It fits handheld scanners used in retail, warehouse, and logistics environments. Voltage and capacity match the original pack specification exactly.

  • SMB K3/470 platform fit: These scanners share a common battery bay format, voltage rail, and BMS handshake profile. The 3.7V nominal output keeps the scan engine and wireless radio within their operating window across the full discharge curve.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-trigger and radio-transmit load sequences. The BMS held stable cutoff thresholds and did not false-trip under combined inrush from the laser engine and wireless polling.
  • First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before use. The scan trigger draws its highest inrush current when the cell is near minimum — a pre-charged pack prevents the BMS from tripping on the very first pull of the shift.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

Dock contacts on the K3/470 cradle accumulate oxidation and debris from warehouse use. Even a thin film on the pack or cradle contacts raises resistance enough to trigger a charging fault on the dock's charge controller. Remove the battery, wipe both the pack contacts and the cradle pins with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly. If the error clears, the connection was the cause — not the battery or the dock electronics.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

During rapid scanning, the radio transmitter and scan engine fire simultaneously, creating a combined inrush that momentarily pulls more current than either draws alone. If the cell voltage sags below the radio module's minimum operating threshold during that combined draw, the wireless link drops. This happens most often when the battery is below 30% charge. Recharge before starting a high-volume scan session to keep cell voltage above 3.5V under load.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Zebra SMB K3/470 won't read barcodes after I swapped the battery — what's wrong?

The scan engine needs the cell voltage above a minimum threshold to fire the laser or imager at full power. If you installed the new pack and went straight to scanning without charging first, the cell may not have enough charge to sustain that draw. Place the scanner in its cradle and complete a full charge cycle before use. After a full charge, the scan engine should fire consistently on the first trigger pull.

The scanner feels noticeably warm after a long shift — is that a battery problem?

Sustained scan-and-transmit cycles in a compact housing trap heat, and the battery is part of that thermal loop. The cell itself generates some heat under continuous discharge, and the enclosed scanner body has limited airflow to dissipate it. Warmth at the end of a shift is normal within limits — if the housing is too hot to hold comfortably, that indicates a higher-than-normal discharge rate, often from aggressive wireless polling intervals. Check the scanner's radio poll frequency setting and reduce it if the device supports that configuration.

This new battery doesn't seem to last as long through the shift as I expected — what causes that?

Scan burst frequency and wireless polling together determine how fast the cell drains — neither alone tells the full story. Scanners in high-density pick-and-pack environments trigger both loads dozens of times per minute, which draws the cell down faster than occasional-use deployments. Verify the scanner's wireless channel and signal strength — poor signal forces the radio to retransmit, adding hidden draw. If signal strength is below –70 dBm at your scan stations, repositioning a wireless access point will reduce radio load and extend shift endurance.
