Symbol cradles read pack status through spring-loaded contact pins on the base of the scanner. If those contacts carry oxidation or debris, the cradle registers a communication fault and refuses to initiate the charge cycle. This is not a battery defect — it is a contact resistance problem. Wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the cradle with a dry lint-free cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and the charging LED should switch to solid amber within 10 seconds.

The PDT8100 draws current from two sources simultaneously during a fast scan sequence — the laser or imager module and the 802.11b radio transmitting scan data back to the host. That combined inrush can pull cell voltage below the BMS low-voltage threshold momentarily, causing the radio to drop its association. The scanner may reconnect automatically, but the data packet from the missed scan is lost. Keeping the pack above 20% charge before a high-volume shift reduces voltage sag enough to keep both subsystems stable.
