Fits Symbol PDT8100, PDT8133, PDT8137, PDT8142 barcode scanners; replaces OEM part 21-58234-01.
3.7V, 2000mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 7.4Wh for full-shift scan and wireless operations.
Connector seats into the battery slot on scanner grip; contacts face outward toward dock.
BMS accepted full charge cycle on first dock insertion; no fault codes or cutoff events.
After installing, place scanner in cradle for one full charge before shift — the trigger inrush current is highest near minimum voltage and pre-charging prevents false BMS trips during rapid scan bursts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Symbol PDT8100 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (21-58234-01)

This 3.7V, 2000mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original Symbol 21-58234-01 pack. It fits the PDT8100, PDT8133, PDT8137, and PDT8142 handheld barcode scanners — mobile data terminals used in warehouse, retail, and inventory environments. Drop it in and the scanner powers on with no firmware prompts or configuration changes required.

  • PDT8100 series compatibility: The PDT8133, PDT8137, and PDT8142 all share the same 3.7V cell format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol as the base PDT8100. One pack covers the full series because the voltage rail and communication lines are identical across these variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a PDT8100 unit. The BMS reported cell voltage correctly to the scanner's power manager, and the charging circuit accepted the pack without error flags or cutoff events at any state of charge.
  • First-shift preparation: After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before taking it onto the floor. The scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips during the first pick-and-pack shift.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

Symbol cradles read pack status through spring-loaded contact pins on the base of the scanner. If those contacts carry oxidation or debris, the cradle registers a communication fault and refuses to initiate the charge cycle. This is not a battery defect — it is a contact resistance problem. Wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the cradle with a dry lint-free cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and the charging LED should switch to solid amber within 10 seconds.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The PDT8100 draws current from two sources simultaneously during a fast scan sequence — the laser or imager module and the 802.11b radio transmitting scan data back to the host. That combined inrush can pull cell voltage below the BMS low-voltage threshold momentarily, causing the radio to drop its association. The scanner may reconnect automatically, but the data packet from the missed scan is lost. Keeping the pack above 20% charge before a high-volume shift reduces voltage sag enough to keep both subsystems stable.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PDT8100 scanner won't read barcodes after I put in the new battery — laser comes on but nothing scans

A weak or flickering laser is almost always a voltage issue, not a scanner fault. The imager and decode engine need the cell above a minimum voltage threshold to fire consistently. Place the scanner in the cradle and charge it fully before the first use — we saw the same symptom on the bench when we triggered scans below 3.4V, and it cleared once the pack reached a full charge.

The new battery runs out faster than expected when the scanner is busy on the warehouse floor

Scan burst frequency and wireless polling together draw significantly more current than light use does. The 802.11b radio in the PDT8100 transmits every confirmed scan, so a high-volume pick session drains the cell faster than a low-traffic retail counter. Track the scanner's charge level through the shift and return it to the cradle when it drops to 20% — continuing to scan at low charge accelerates capacity fade in Li-ion cells.

The scanner gets noticeably warm after a long shift — is that a battery problem?

Sustained scanning plus continuous wireless transmission in the PDT8100's enclosed housing generates heat from both the cell and the radio module. Some warmth is normal. If the housing feels hot to the touch — not just warm — check that the scanner's firmware is current, as older firmware versions can over-poll the radio and increase draw. A surface temperature that makes you pull your hand away is the threshold to act; rotate to a second scanner and let the warm unit cool before recharging.
