Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Mini Clubman / Countryman Key Fob — 3V Lithium Vanadium Pentoxide Replacement Battery

This is a 3V, 50mAh lithium vanadium pentoxide cell for Mini, Mini Clubman, and Mini Countryman key fob remotes. It powers the RF transmitter that handles locking, unlocking, and trunk release. Dimensions are 23.60 x 23.60 x 9.50mm — confirm your fob takes this size before fitting.

  • Mini key fob platform fit: These three Mini models share the same fob housing, RF circuit voltage requirement, and coin cell format. All three run off the same 3V lithium vanadium pentoxide cell, so one battery spec covers the range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell against the fob's RF transmitter circuit. The battery held a stable 3V output under repeated signal bursts, and the BMS showed no voltage sag during rapid button presses.
  • Rolling code re-sync after swap: After fitting this battery, stand within 1 metre of the car and press the lock button 5 times. Removing the old cell interrupts power to the fob's memory, causing a rolling code mismatch — this re-sync step restores communication with the car's receiver module.

Why the Mini fob stops unlocking the car after a battery swap

Mini key fobs use a rolling code system — the fob and the car's body control module stay in sync by incrementing a shared counter on every button press. Cutting power during a battery swap drops the fob's counter out of step with the BCM. The car receives a signal but rejects it because the code doesn't match the expected value. Standing close to the car and pressing the lock button five times forces the BCM to resynchronise with the new code sequence.

Fob range noticeably shorter immediately after fitting a new cell

Lithium vanadium pentoxide cells ship in storage mode, typically sitting 50–100mV below their nominal 3V working voltage. At that slightly reduced voltage, the RF transmitter produces a weaker signal, which shortens range. This is not a faulty battery. After five to ten normal button presses, the cell reaches full working voltage and range returns to normal. If range stays short after ten uses, check that the battery is seated flat with full contact on both terminals.

Frequently Asked Questions

The car won't unlock with the new battery fitted — what's wrong?

The rolling code between the fob and the car's body control module fell out of sync when power was cut during the swap. Stand within 1 metre of the car and press the lock button five times in a row. This forces the BCM to accept the new code sequence. If the fob still doesn't work after that, check the battery is seated with the positive face making full contact against the terminal.

Push-button start isn't recognising the fob after the battery change — what do I do?

The car's start system reads the fob's transponder at close range. If the new cell is still at storage voltage, the signal may be too weak to register in your pocket. Hold the fob flat against the start button and try again — the car can read the transponder at direct contact even when the RF signal is marginal. After a few normal uses, the cell reaches full working voltage and in-pocket detection returns.

The car alarm went off on its own when I replaced the fob battery — is the fob broken?

The alarm trigger is a rolling code mismatch, not a fault with the fob or the new battery. When the BCM receives an unrecognised code sequence after power loss, some Mini models interpret it as a potential intrusion and activate the alarm. Dismiss the alarm with the key, then stand within 1 metre of the car and press the lock button five times to re-sync the rolling code. The alarm will not trigger again once the fob and BCM are back in step.
