Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Audioline CDL200 / CDL400 / FF893 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V 600mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the Audioline CDL200, CDL400, and FF893 cordless handsets. It slots into the battery compartment and powers the handset away from the base station. No OEM part number exists for this battery — compatibility is confirmed by voltage, chemistry, and physical dimensions (42.45 × 29.77 × 14.37mm).

  • CDL200, CDL400, and FF893 compatibility: These three Audioline handsets share the same battery bay dimensions and 3.6V NiMH charging circuit. The base station charges at the same trickle rate across all three, so one battery format covers the full range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the CDL200 base station. The BMS accepted charge without error and the handset powered on cleanly across three consecutive cycles.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells ship in a partially discharged state — a slow first charge lets the cells reach rated capacity. Skipping this step is the leading cause of short talk time after a fresh install.

Base station showing no charge or error light after fitting a new NiMH pack

NiMH cells lose voltage during storage. If the cell voltage drops low enough, the CDL200 base station's charging circuit may not recognise the battery as a valid pack and will stall before initiating a charge cycle. This is not a fault with the battery or the base — it is a voltage threshold issue. To recover, remove the battery, short the terminals briefly with a resistor or low-load device to bring the voltage to a stable low point, then re-seat it in the base. Most base stations will then begin a normal charge cycle from around 3.0V upward.

Range drops noticeably when the handset moves away from the base

DECT handsets draw a short burst of power each time the radio transmits. If the NiMH cell is not fully conditioned, its internal resistance is higher than normal and voltage sags under that RF load. The handset interprets the sag as a low-battery state and reduces transmit power, cutting range. Running three to five full charge-discharge cycles brings internal resistance down and restores stable voltage under load. After conditioning, range returns to the level the base station supports.

Frequently Asked Questions

My CDL200 talk time is still short after fitting the new battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. NiMH cells need three to five full charge-discharge cycles to reach rated capacity — the first cycle typically delivers noticeably less than the cell's 600mAh rating. Each subsequent cycle conditions the cells further. Run the handset until it beeps for low battery, return it to the base for a full 16-hour charge, and repeat this at least twice more before judging talk time.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix it?

Some DECT handsets store their pairing data in volatile memory that clears when power is fully removed. Replacing the battery cuts that power and can trigger a re-registration prompt. Place the handset in the base, then follow the pairing procedure in the CDL200 manual — typically holding the registration button on the base for five seconds while the handset searches. The handset should reconnect without a factory reset.

The battery drains overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base — what's causing it?

If the handset is not fully seated in the base, the charging contacts do not make a clean connection and the base stops charging while the handset continues drawing standby current. Remove the handset, wipe the charging contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth, then re-seat it firmly. Confirm the charge indicator light on the base is active — if it shows no light, the contacts are still not connecting.
