Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Auerswald COMFORT / COMFORT DECT 800 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for Auerswald COMFORT and COMFORT DECT 800 cordless handsets. It sits inside the handset and powers the DECT radio, display, and keypad. When the original pack degrades, this battery restores normal cordless operation.

  • COMFORT and COMFORT DECT 800 fitment: Both models use the same 3.6V single-cell NiMH pack with identical physical dimensions (45.00 × 31.10 × 10.50mm) and the same connector orientation. No modification is needed to fit either handset.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a NiMH-compatible test rig. The cell accepted a full charge without thermal runaway and held voltage above the DECT radio cutoff threshold through multiple discharge cycles.
  • First charge after installation: Place the handset in the base cradle for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells ship in a partially discharged state — a slow initial charge lets the cells balance and reach their rated 700mAh capacity. Skipping this will cut your initial talk time short.

Talk time shorter than expected after the first few charges

NiMH cells in cordless phones need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. A freshly installed pack may feel weaker than the old battery for the first few days — that is normal cell conditioning, not a fault. Each full cycle pushes the cells slightly closer to their 700mAh rating. Run the handset to low battery and return it to the base after each call to accelerate this process.

Base station charge light not activating on a new NiMH pack

NiMH batteries lose charge during storage, and a deeply discharged pack can fall below the voltage threshold the base uses to detect a valid battery. The base interprets a very low cell voltage as an absent or faulty battery and withholds charging current. To recover, connect the handset to the base and leave it undisturbed for at least 30 minutes — most Auerswald bases apply a trickle pre-charge that brings the pack up to acceptance voltage before switching to normal charge. If the charge light still does not activate after 30 minutes, disconnect and reconnect the base power supply to reset the charge controller.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Auerswald COMFORT handset loses range near the edges of the house — could the new battery be causing this?

Yes — NiMH voltage sag under RF load is a real cause of reduced range. When the DECT radio fires its transmit burst, it draws a short spike of current. A battery that hasn't completed its conditioning cycles will sag in voltage during that spike, and the handset drops transmit power to compensate. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles first. If range is still short after conditioning, check that the handset clicks fully into the base cradle — a poor contact means the pack never reaches a full charge.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some DECT phones store pairing data in volatile memory that resets when power is lost. This is a handset firmware behaviour, not a battery fault. Re-register the handset through the base station's pairing menu — on most Auerswald COMFORT systems, hold the registration button on the base for three seconds, then navigate to the handset's menu and select "Register handset." The pairing process takes under a minute.

The handset battery drains overnight even when it's sitting in the base — what's wrong?

This usually means the handset is not making solid contact with the base charging pins. The handset draws a small standby current continuously, and if the charge circuit isn't completing, the pack drains instead of topping up. Remove the handset, wipe the metal charging contacts on both the handset and the base with a dry cloth, then reseat the handset until you hear or feel it click into position. The charge indicator light should activate within a few seconds of correct seating.
