Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Avaya AP680BHP-AV / 3920 / DECT D160 — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BT-1009)
This is a 2.4V, 850mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Avaya AP680BHP-AV, 3920, and DECT D160 cordless phone handsets. It replaces OEM part numbers BT-1009, BT-1009A, 700503110, and BT-1024. Drop this into the handset battery compartment and the handset is ready to charge from the base station.
- AP680BHP-AV, 3920, and DECT D160 compatibility: All three models share the same 2.4V two-cell NiMH pack footprint, connector pinout, and BMS handshake — one battery covers the full range without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on the AP680BHP-AV base station. The BMS accepted charge on the first dock, temperature stayed within normal range across the full charge cycle, and the handset registered talk-ready status without any error indication.
- First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless packs: After installing, place the handset in the base cradle and leave it undisturbed for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells at storage voltage will not reach rated 850mAh capacity on a quick top-up — the slow first charge is what sets the cell plates correctly.
Range drop after a battery swap on the AP680BHP-AV
RF transmit power in DECT handsets draws directly from the battery voltage rail. A NiMH pack that shipped at storage charge — typically 2.0–2.1V — cannot sustain the voltage the transmitter needs under RF load. The handset stays connected at close range but drops out progressively further from the base. A full 16-hour base charge restores the pack to its operating voltage band and the range returns to normal.
Base station shows no charge light after installing a new battery
Avaya base stations use delta-V detection to confirm a NiMH pack is accepting charge — if the resting voltage is too low from extended storage, the charger circuit does not see a valid response and shows no charge activity. Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, then re-seat it firmly so both charge contacts close fully. If the light still does not appear, check that the battery terminals are clean and the pack is pushed flush — a partially seated battery breaks contact intermittently.

Frequently Asked Questions
My AP680BHP-AV talk time is still short after a week — is the new battery faulty?
NiMH cordless phone batteries need 3 to 5 full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. A new pack often delivers noticeably shorter talk time on the first few cycles — this is normal cell conditioning, not a defect. Keep completing full cycles by letting the handset run down in use, then docking it for a full charge each time. By cycle 5, capacity should be at or near the rated 850mAh.
The handset lost its pairing to the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?
Some DECT phones drop their pairing data when power is fully removed from the handset, because pairing credentials are held in volatile memory backed by the battery. Re-register the handset through the base station's pairing menu — on the Avaya D160 and 3920, this is typically a long-press of the registration button on the base unit while the handset is powered on. Check the handset display for a registration prompt and follow the on-screen steps to complete the link.
The battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what causes that?
This usually means the handset is not making solid contact with the base charging pins. Even a slight tilt or debris on the contacts stops the charge circuit from activating, so the handset runs entirely on battery overnight. Remove the handset, wipe both the base pins and the handset charge contacts with a dry cloth, then re-seat the handset and confirm the charge indicator lights up within 30 seconds of docking.
