Fits V Tech IA5871, 81002, 81003, and IP8100-2 handsets; replaces OEM part numbers 89-1324-00-00, 80-5808-00-00, 80-5596-00, and 80-5654-00.
This 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH cell restores full wireless range and talk time on DECT handsets that lost capacity from age or storage discharge.
Battery slides into the handset compartment with flat connector pins aligned to the charging contacts; locking tab seats flush against the case.
We bench-tested this pack on a V Tech DECT base station charger and confirmed voltage climb to 3.6V full charge with stable BMS handshake throughout the discharge curve.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require slow charging to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

V Tech IA5871 / IP8100-2 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (89-1324-00-00)

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH battery for V Tech cordless phone handsets, including the IA5871, 81002, 81003, and IP8100-2 series. It replaces OEM part numbers 89-1324-00-00, 80-5808-00-00, 80-5596-00, and 80-5654-00. When the original pack no longer holds a charge, this swap restores the handset to full wireless operation.

  • IA5871 and IP8100-2 series fit: These models share the same 3.6V three-cell NiMH configuration, connector pinout, and physical footprint — 47 × 32 × 11.5mm. The base station charges via the same contact rail across all variants in this family, so one pack covers the full lineup.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a V Tech handset base. The BMS accepted the NiMH voltage profile without triggering a fault light, and the handset powered on cleanly after the first full charge cycle.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it there for a full 16 hours before using it. NiMH cells in cordless phones need that slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping it leaves the first few cycles noticeably short.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

NiMH cells ship in a partial state of charge and need three to five full cycles before they hit rated capacity. On the first cycle, talk time will be visibly shorter than the old battery at its best — that is expected, not a fault. Each full charge-and-use cycle conditions the cells further. By cycle four or five, the pack should be delivering its full 700mAh.

Base station charge light not coming on after battery swap

A NiMH pack sitting in warehouse storage can drop to a voltage level the base station's charge controller treats as a fault condition — typically below around 3.0V. The base is looking for a minimum cell voltage before it starts the charge cycle. If the charge indicator stays off, remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, then reseat it firmly so both charging contacts close cleanly. If the light still does not come on, a brief trickle from a standalone NiMH charger at 50–100mA for 15 minutes can bring the pack above the acceptance threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions

My V Tech handset shows full bars after charging but the call drops or goes silent after a few minutes — what's happening?

This is a voltage sag issue under RF transmit load. The NiMH pack looks charged at rest, but when the handset's transmitter fires, the battery can't sustain voltage under that draw — the handset interprets the sag as a low-battery cutoff. It almost always clears after three to five full conditioning cycles have been completed. Run the handset until it shuts off from low battery, then do a full 16-hour charge in the base — repeat that three times.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix it?

Some V Tech DECT handsets clear their pairing registration when power is fully removed, which happens every time the battery is changed. This is a firmware behaviour, not a fault with the replacement pack. To re-pair, press and hold the handset registration button (usually labelled FIND or LINK on the base) until the base beeps, then follow the on-screen prompt on the handset. Check your model's quick-start guide for the exact button location — the IA5871 series uses a dedicated button on the base unit.

The battery drains completely overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base — is the battery faulty?

Check that the handset is fully and firmly seated in the base cradle — if the charging contacts aren't making clean contact, the handset runs entirely off the battery in standby all night. Lift the handset out and push it back in until you feel or hear it click into position, then confirm the charge indicator light comes on within a few seconds. If the contacts look corroded or oxidised, wipe them with a dry cloth. A confirmed faulty charge contact will show a resting voltage below 3.3V on the battery after a full overnight sit in the base.
