Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Binatone Unit1 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery
This is a 3.6V, 1200mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the Binatone Unit1 cordless phone handset. It replaces the original pack when the handset no longer holds a charge or powers on. Slot it in, seat the handset in the base, and run the conditioning cycle before use.
- Binatone Unit1 handset fit: The Unit1 base station delivers a trickle charge matched to a 3.6V Ni-MH cell. This pack matches that voltage rail and physical footprint, so the charging contacts align and the base accepts the battery without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a 3.6V Ni-MH test rig. The cell reached rated capacity by the fourth cycle, which is normal Ni-MH behaviour — early cycles run short until the chemistry stabilises.
- First-charge protocol for Ni-MH cordless packs: After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells shipped in a partially discharged state need that slow initial charge to reach the 1200mAh rated capacity. Pulling it off the base after a few hours will leave capacity on the table for the first several cycles.
Range dropping on the Unit1 after a battery swap
The Unit1 handset boosts its RF transmit power from the battery rail directly. A Ni-MH pack that hasn't completed its first conditioning cycle has a higher internal resistance than a broken-in cell. Under the RF transmit load, voltage sags enough to reduce effective range. This isn't a fault with the battery or the base station — it corrects itself after three to five full charge and discharge cycles. If range is still short after five cycles, check that the handset sits flush in the base cradle with clean contact points.
Base station showing no charge or error light with a new battery installed
Ni-MH batteries can drop below 3.0V during storage. Some cordless base stations check the pack voltage before committing a charge current — if the reading is too low, the base refuses to charge and shows an error. Remove the handset from the base, wait ten seconds, then reseat it firmly so both charging contacts engage. If the error persists, the base may need the pack voltage to recover slightly — place it in a second compatible handset or a universal Ni-MH charger at 100mA until the cell reads at least 3.2V, then return it to the Unit1 base.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Binatone Unit1 talk time is much shorter than expected — is the new battery faulty?
It's not faulty. Ni-MH cells ship partially discharged and need three to five full cycles before they deliver rated capacity. Each full charge-and-discharge cycle builds on the last, and by cycle four or five the pack should be delivering close to its 1200mAh rating. Run the handset down until it beeps for low battery, then return it to the base for a full 16-hour charge — repeat that cycle four times before drawing any conclusions.
The Unit1 handset lost its pairing with the base after I fitted the new battery — how do I fix it?
Some DECT cordless phones drop their pairing data when power is fully removed from the handset. This happens because the pairing record is held in volatile memory that clears when the battery goes flat or is swapped. Re-register the handset using the pairing button on the base station — on most Binatone DECT bases, hold the registration button for five seconds until the base LED flashes, then follow the handset pairing prompt.
The Unit1 battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what's causing that?
This points to a contact alignment issue rather than a battery fault. If the handset isn't fully seated, the charging pins don't make a reliable connection and the base never delivers charge current — the handset runs entirely off battery through standby draw. Check that the cradle contacts are clean and free of dust, and press the handset down firmly until it clicks or sits flush. If the base LED doesn't show a charging indicator within a minute of reseating, clean the contacts on both the handset and cradle with a dry cloth and reseat again.
