NiMH cells arrive from storage in a partially discharged state and typically need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. On cycle one, you may see noticeably shorter talk time — this is normal cell behaviour, not a fault with the pack. Run the handset until the low-battery alert sounds, return it to the base for a full 16-hour charge, and repeat. By cycle four or five, talk time should stabilise close to the rated 1500mAh output.

Base station not charging or showing an error light after swap

A new NiMH pack that has sat in storage can drop to a voltage low enough that the Amarys base station refuses to begin a charge cycle — the base expects to see a minimum threshold before it opens the charge circuit. Remove the handset, leave it out of the base for 60 seconds, then re-seat it firmly. If the charge indicator still does not respond, check that the handset contacts are clean and making full contact with the base cradle — oxidation on the gold pads is a common cause of this fault.
