Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

LifeTec 9986 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery
This is a 3.6V, 1200mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the LifeTec 9986 cordless phone handset. It replaces the original cell pack when the handset no longer holds charge or drops calls mid-conversation. Voltage and cell chemistry match the original specification exactly.
- LifeTec 9986 handset fit: The 9986 runs a single Ni-MH cell pack on a 3.6V rail. This battery matches that rail voltage and the physical footprint — 42.40 × 49.90 × 14.40mm — so it seats correctly in the handset bay without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a Ni-MH–compatible test rig. The cell voltage climbed steadily through the charge curve and held stable at the top of charge, with no premature cutoff or thermal flags.
- First-charge conditioning for Ni-MH cordless packs: After installing, place the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells shipped in storage state need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — a quick top-up will not do it.
Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement
New Ni-MH cells often deliver noticeably less talk time for the first three to five cycles — this is normal, not a fault. The cells have not yet been fully conditioned and the internal resistance is higher than it will be after a few full charge-discharge cycles. Each full cycle lowers that resistance and lets the pack deliver closer to its rated 1200mAh. Run the handset until it signals low battery, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat — talk time should improve with each cycle.
Base station shows no charge or error light after battery swap
A Ni-MH pack that has sat in storage can arrive with a resting voltage too low for the base station's charge acceptance threshold to recognise. The base sees an apparent open circuit or a voltage it interprets as a fault, and the charge indicator stays off or shows an error. Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, and reseat it firmly — the base will retry the detection cycle. If the light still does not come on, leave the handset seated for an hour; some base units trickle-charge a deeply discharged pack before switching to normal charge current, and the indicator only activates once voltage crosses roughly 3.0V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My LifeTec 9986 is draining flat overnight in the base — is the new battery faulty?
This is almost always a seating issue, not a bad cell. If the handset is not making solid contact with the base charging pins, the battery draws standby current from the handset circuit without receiving any charge back. Remove the handset and inspect the charging contacts on both the handset and base for dust or corrosion — clean them with a dry cloth. Reseat the handset firmly until you hear or feel it click into position, then check the charge indicator confirms it is charging.
The 9986 handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?
Some DECT handsets store pairing data in volatile memory that clears when power is fully removed, which happens the moment you pull the old battery. The handset comes back up as an unregistered unit and the base will not accept calls to it. Re-register the handset through the base station's handset registration menu — on most DECT bases this means holding the registration button on the base for three seconds until the LED flashes, then confirming registration on the handset within 60 seconds.
The 9986 handset range feels shorter since I fitted the new battery — what is causing it?
DECT transmit power on the 9986 handset is drawn directly from the battery pack. When a fresh Ni-MH cell is not yet conditioned, its voltage sags under the RF load of an active transmission — the handset's output power drops with it, shortening effective range. This is tied to the same conditioning issue as short talk time: internal resistance falls after three to five full charge-discharge cycles, voltage sag reduces, and transmit power stabilises. Complete those conditioning cycles and test range again before assuming a fault.
