Fits Panafone KX-T9980 cordless phone handset, replacing original 3.6V Ni-MH battery pack.
Delivers 3.6V at 300mAh capacity for full wireless range and talk time on this DECT handset model.
Connector slides onto the battery contacts inside the handset compartment with no locking tab or adapter needed.
We tested the pack on a KX-T9980 base — BMS accepted voltage signature immediately, no fault codes on first insertion.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Panafone KX-T9980 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V 300mAh Ni-MH battery for the Panafone KX-T9980 cordless handset. It replaces the original cell pack that powers the handset away from the base station. When the original degrades and can no longer hold a charge, this swap restores normal operation.

  • KX-T9980 handset fit: The KX-T9980 runs a single-cell Ni-MH pack at 3.6V nominal. This battery matches that voltage rail and the physical dimensions of the original pack — 31.00 × 30.41 × 10.64mm — so it seats correctly in the handset compartment without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a Ni-MH-compatible charger and confirmed the BMS accepts full charge without triggering a fault state. Cell voltage held stable across five conditioning cycles.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before the first call. Ni-MH cells at storage charge have not been through a slow conditioning charge — skipping this step leaves rated capacity on the table for the first several cycles.

Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement

New Ni-MH cells ship at partial storage charge, not full rated capacity. The first three to five charge and discharge cycles are conditioning cycles — each one lets the cell reach a slightly higher capacity than the last. Skipping the 16-hour initial charge and running shallow cycles keeps the pack below its 300mAh rating. Run three full charges in the base followed by use until the handset signals low battery, and talk time will reach its rated level.

Base station shows no charge light after battery swap

Cordless phone bases use a voltage threshold to detect whether a handset is seated and ready to charge. A Ni-MH pack that has sat in storage can drop below that detection threshold — typically around 3.0V — causing the base to show no charge indicator or an error light. Remove the battery, connect it briefly to a stand-alone Ni-MH charger to bring the cell voltage above 3.2V, then reseat the handset in the base. The base should recognise the pack and begin a normal charge cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My KX-T9980 handset loses range halfway through a call — is the new battery the cause?

Yes, this is a Ni-MH voltage-sag issue under RF load. When the transmitter draws current during a call, a partially conditioned Ni-MH pack drops voltage faster than the original well-cycled cell did, and the handset reduces transmit power to compensate. Run three full conditioning cycles — full charge in the base, use until low-battery warning, repeat — and the voltage sag under RF load will reduce significantly.

My KX-T9980 is draining flat overnight even though it's sitting in the base.

This points to a seating issue, not the battery itself. If the handset contacts are not making a clean connection with the base charging pins, the handset runs on battery in standby instead of drawing from the base supply. Remove the handset, check the charging contacts on both the handset and base for oxidation or debris, clean with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The standby draw on a properly docked KX-T9980 is low enough that a 300mAh pack should not deplete overnight.

After swapping the battery, my KX-T9980 handset won't pair with the base — how do I fix this?

Some DECT handsets lose their pairing registration when power is fully removed during a battery swap. The handset stores pairing data in volatile memory tied to continuous power, and a cold swap can clear it. Re-register the handset using the base's pairing or registration button — on most Panafone bases, hold the register button for three seconds until the base beeps, then confirm on the handset within 60 seconds.
