RCA base stations use a delta-V detection circuit to confirm a NiMH cell is accepting charge. Remove the handset, hold the Talk key for three seconds to drain residual voltage, then reseat it in the base. NiMH voltage sags under the RF transmit load of a DECT handset — particularly on a new pack that hasn't completed its first conditioning cycles. When voltage drops below the handset's RF power threshold, transmit strength is reduced and range shrinks. The fix is not a hardware fault — run three to five full charge and discharge cycles, and the internal resistance of the cells falls as the electrodes condition.
