This 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original rechargeable pack in the Panasonic CL200 cordless phone handset. It fits the CL200, CL300, CL400, and CL405, along with six additional models in the same series. The voltage and connector match the original, so the base station charges it through the same cradle contacts.

NiMH batteries drop to a low resting voltage during storage — sometimes low enough that the CL200 base station does not recognise an active charge state when the handset is first docked. The base reads the incoming voltage, and if it falls below the acceptance threshold, the charge indicator stays off or flashes an error. In most cases, leaving the handset docked undisturbed for 30 to 60 minutes lets the circuit trickle enough current in to cross the threshold and begin normal charging. If the indicator stays off after that window, check that the handset is fully seated and the cradle contacts are clean — target a resting voltage of at least 3.0V before docking.

Talk time shorter than rated for first few uses after swap

NiMH cells do not deliver full rated capacity straight out of the box. The 700mAh rating reflects a conditioned cell, and new packs typically take three to five full charge-and-use cycles to reach that figure. During those early cycles, available capacity builds incrementally — each full discharge followed by a full 16-hour base charge pushes the cells closer to rated output. If talk time is still noticeably short after five cycles, the pack has not been fully discharging between charges; let the handset run until it signals low battery before returning it to the base.
