Base station shows no charge light after fitting new battery

Storage depletes Ni-MH cells, and a deeply discharged pack can sit below the threshold the V850a base station uses to detect a valid battery. The charger circuit sees a voltage too low to begin a normal charge cycle and shows no activity. Remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, and reseat it firmly — the contacts need full pressure to pass the detection voltage. If the charge light still does not appear, check the resting cell voltage at the battery terminals; it should read above 1.8V total to trigger the base station charging circuit.
