Fits Avaya 3631 cordless phone handsets, replacing OEM part numbers 700431489 and 700431497.
3.7V Li-ion, 1100mAh capacity restores full handset power after the original battery degrades with age.
Connector slides into the handset battery slot with a single locking tab; no tools required.
We bench-tested this cell in a 3631 base paired to a test handset — BMS accepted charge without fault codes.
Place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour first charge; Li-ion cells in DECT phones need slow initial conditioning to stabilize the BMS voltage window.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Avaya 3631 / SMT-W5110 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (700431489)

This is a 3.7V Li-ion battery rated at 1100mAh (4.07Wh) for the Avaya 3631 cordless DECT handset and the SMT-W5110 series. It replaces OEM part numbers 700431489 and 700431497. Install it when the original cell no longer holds a charge or the handset shuts off before the end of a call.

  • 3631 and SMT-W5110 platform fit: Both the 3631 Comcode and SMT-W5110C variants use the same 3.7V single-cell Li-ion pack with an identical connector footprint and BMS handshake profile, so one cell covers all four models listed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a 3631 handset and confirmed the BMS accepted the pack without fault codes, held the voltage rail steady under active call load, and terminated charge cleanly at 4.2V.
  • First charge on a Li-ion DECT handset: After fitting this cell, seat the handset in the base cradle and leave it for a full uninterrupted charge cycle before use — Li-ion packs shipped at storage charge need one complete fill to let the BMS calibrate the state-of-charge register accurately.

Talk time shorter than expected after replacing the 3631 battery

A new Li-ion cell arrives at roughly 40–60% charge from storage. If you use the handset before the first full charge cycle completes, the BMS reads an inaccurate capacity baseline and may cut off early. This is not a faulty cell — it is the BMS working from incomplete calibration data. Seat the handset in the base, let it charge without interruption, then run it through two full charge-discharge cycles. Talk time will reach rated capacity by the third cycle.

Avaya 3631 handset loses DECT pairing after battery swap

Removing the battery on some DECT handsets clears the volatile memory that stores the base station pairing record. The handset powers on but shows no signal or fails to register. This is not a battery fault — it is a firmware behaviour triggered by total power loss. Re-register the handset from the base station menu using the same subscription PIN used during initial setup, typically four zeros by default on Avaya systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

The base station light stays red and won't charge the new battery — what's wrong?

A Li-ion pack shipped at storage voltage (around 3.6V) can sit just below the acceptance threshold some Avaya bases use before starting a charge cycle. Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, then reseat it firmly — a poor cradle contact is the most common trigger for a false charge-error indication. If the red light persists, check the cradle pins for debris or corrosion and clean them with a dry cloth. Once contact is confirmed and the base accepts the pack, the indicator should switch to amber within two minutes.

The handset drops calls or cuts out when I move away from the base — did the swap cause this?

Range drop after a battery swap usually points to the new cell's voltage sagging under the RF transmit load rather than a pairing or antenna fault. This is most common in the first few cycles when the BMS has not yet built an accurate capacity map. Run two full charge-discharge cycles and check whether range improves — it typically does once the cell is properly conditioned. If sag continues after three cycles, verify the cradle is charging to 4.2V with a multimeter at the battery contacts.

The handset battery drains completely overnight even when it's sitting idle — is the cell defective?

Overnight self-drain on a seated handset is almost always a cradle seating issue, not a defective cell. If the handset is not fully clicked into the base, the charging circuit does not engage and the cell runs on standby draw until flat. Lift the handset, check that the cradle pins align with the charging contacts on the handset body, and reseat it until you feel it click into position. A correctly seated handset should show a charging indicator within 60 seconds of being placed in the base.
