Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

SpectraLink 8400 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (1520-37214-001)
This 3.7V 1200mAh Li-ion battery replaces OEM part 1520-37214-001 in the SpectraLink 8400, 8450, 8452, and RS657 wireless handsets. These are enterprise DECT phones used in healthcare, retail, and warehouse environments where handset uptime matters. Drop the battery in, seat the handset in the base, and the charge cycle starts immediately.
- 8400, 8450, 8452, RS657 compatibility: All four models run the same 3.7V Li-ion cell with an identical connector and BMS handshake. The battery communicates charge state back to the SpectraLink base station — swapping between these handsets causes no recognition issues.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the 8450 handset. The BMS reported accurate state-of-charge to the base station throughout, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at low-voltage cutoff without requiring a manual reset.
- First charge after installation: Place the handset in the base immediately after fitting this battery and leave it for a full uninterrupted charge before using the handset on a call. Li-ion cells shipped in partial-charge state need one complete cycle to let the BMS calibrate its capacity tracking accurately.
Talk time shorter than expected after fitting a new battery
A new Li-ion cell ships at around 40–60% charge, and the BMS has no usage history to reference. Until it completes one or two full charge and discharge cycles, the fuel gauge under-reports available capacity. This makes the handset appear to run flat faster than it should. Run two to three full cycles — charge to 100%, use the handset until the low-battery indicator appears, then recharge fully — and the BMS recalibrates. After that, capacity readings stabilise at the rated 1200mAh.
Base station shows no charge light after battery swap
If the base does not show a charging indicator after you seat the handset, the battery's resting voltage may be below the base station's acceptance threshold — common after extended storage. Remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, then reseat it firmly. If the charge light still does not appear, check the battery contacts on both the handset and the base with a dry cloth — oxidation on the pins breaks the circuit. The base expects to see at least 3.0V at the battery terminals before it initiates a charge cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions
My SpectraLink 8450 lost its DECT pairing after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?
Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some SpectraLink DECT handsets drop their pairing registration when the power rail goes to zero. The fix is a manual re-registration: place the handset near the base station, then initiate a new registration from the base admin interface or handset menu under Settings > Register. Once re-registered, the handset reconnects to the system without needing a full system restart.
The handset battery drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — what's wrong?
The most common cause is the handset not making full contact with the base charging pins. Check that the handset clicks firmly into the base cradle and that the charge indicator light is on — if the handset is even slightly misaligned, it runs on battery the entire time. Clean the charging contacts on the base and the back of the handset with a dry cloth. If the light is on and the battery still drains overnight, check whether a background alert or missed-call notification is keeping the display active, which pulls continuous current.
The handset cuts out or drops calls near the edge of the coverage area more often with the new battery than the old one — is that normal?
This is a real issue in the first few cycles. A Li-ion cell that has not yet been fully calibrated by the BMS shows a steeper voltage drop under the RF transmit load, which causes the radio to reduce output power as the BMS approaches its low-voltage threshold. After two to three full charge and discharge cycles, the BMS tracks capacity accurately and the voltage curve under RF load flattens out. Run the handset down to the low-battery warning and recharge fully twice — range should recover to match the original battery.
