This is a 3.7V, 500mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Grundig Scenos and Scenos A cordless DECT handsets. It matches the OEM part number SL-422943 and fits the slim battery compartment at 43 × 28 × 4mm. Replace it when the original no longer holds a charge or the handset dies faster than it used to.

  • Scenos and Scenos A compatibility: Both models share the same 3.7V Li-ion cell format, connector orientation, and BMS handshake with the base station charging circuit — one battery covers both handset variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a DECT handset test rig. The BMS held the cutoff voltage correctly and the base station recognised the pack without throwing a charge error.

Talk time shorter than expected after fitting a new battery

A freshly installed Li-ion cell rarely delivers full rated capacity on the first cycle. The BMS starts with an uncalibrated state-of-charge estimate, which can cause the handset to report low battery earlier than it should. Run two to three full charge-and-discharge cycles and the gauge will align with the actual 500mAh capacity. If talk time remains short after three cycles, check that the handset sits fully seated in the base — a loose contact delivers a partial charge each time.

Handset loses DECT pairing after battery replacement

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some DECT phones store pairing data in volatile memory backed by the cell. When power drops to zero, that registration is lost. Re-register the handset to the base through the base station menu — typically a long-press on the paging button on the base unit. The process takes under two minutes and does not require resetting any other handsets already paired to the same base.

My Grundig Scenos base station is showing a charging error light after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?

A Li-ion cell shipped in partial state-of-charge can sit below the voltage threshold the base station expects to see before it starts a charge cycle. Seat the handset firmly in the base and leave it for 15–20 minutes — the base charging circuit will trickle-charge the cell up to the acceptance threshold and the error light should clear. If it does not clear, remove the handset, check the battery contacts on the handset are clean and making full contact, then reseat it. The base should begin a normal charge once the cell reads above approximately 3.0V at the contacts.

My Scenos handset drains completely overnight even though I leave it in the base — is the battery faulty?

This points to the handset not making a solid connection with the base charging pins rather than a cell fault. Check that the handset clicks fully into the cradle and that the charging contacts on both the handset and base are free of dust or oxidation — wipe them with a dry cloth. A handset that sits slightly off-centre draws on the battery in standby without topping it back up. Once good contact is confirmed, a full overnight charge should hold the cell at or near 3.7V by morning.

My Scenos has noticeably less range after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Reduced range immediately after a swap usually means the cell voltage is sagging under the RF transmit load before it has been fully conditioned. The DECT radio draws a short current spike each time it transmits, and a partially charged or uncalibrated Li-ion pack can sag enough to reduce transmit power. Run two full charge cycles and test range again — transmit performance should stabilise once the cell is holding closer to its rated 3.7V under load. If range stays poor after conditioning, check the handset antenna connection has not been disturbed during battery installation.
