Fits Motorola MD7151, MD7161, MD7161-3, and MD7250 cordless handsets; replaces OEM part 525734-001 and TL26158.
3.6V Ni-MH chemistry at 700mAh delivers the same voltage curve as the original pack for full base station compatibility and dial tone stability.
Slides into the handset battery slot vertically with a single plastic locking tab on the upper edge; connector orientation is keyed and cannot be reversed.
We ran this pack on a Motorola base charger overnight and measured stable 3.6V float with clean BMS acceptance; no charging faults logged on the handset display.
After installation, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless packs require slow charging to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola MD7151 / MD7161 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (525734-001)

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH battery pack for the Motorola MD7151 and MD7161 series cordless handsets. It replaces OEM part numbers 525734-001 and TL26158. Compatible models include the MD7151, MD7161, MD7161-3, and MD7250, among others.

  • MD7151 / MD7161 series fit: These models share the same 3.6V three-cell Ni-MH pack format, connector pinout, and physical footprint. The base station's charge circuit expects this voltage range, so swapping between models in this family works without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran charge and discharge cycles on the MD7161 platform. The BMS accepted a full charge without error, voltage held steady across the RF transmission window, and the base station's charge indicator behaved normally throughout.
  • First charge on Ni-MH cordless packs: After installing this battery, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use. Ni-MH cells in cordless phone packs ship partially discharged. A slow first charge lets each cell reach rated capacity at the same rate — skipping this step leaves you with less talk time than the pack can actually deliver.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

New Ni-MH cells don't reach rated capacity on the first cycle. It typically takes three to five full charge-discharge cycles before the pack delivers its full 700mAh. The base station's trickle charge circuit tops off voltage, but full capacity builds through use. Run the handset until the low-battery tone sounds, then return it to the base — repeat this a few times and talk time will improve with each cycle.

Base station showing no charge or error light after installing the new pack

Ni-MH packs lose voltage during storage. If the pack voltage drops below roughly 3.0V, some Motorola bases won't initiate the charge cycle and the charge LED stays off or flashes an error. Remove the battery, check the terminal contacts on both the handset and battery for oxidation, and reseat the pack firmly. If the base still won't respond, leave the handset seated for 30 minutes — the trickle pre-charge circuit on most MD-series bases will recover packs down to around 2.7V before switching to full charge mode.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MD7161 talks for a short time on the new battery — is the pack faulty?

It's not faulty. Fresh Ni-MH cells need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. Run the handset until the low-battery tone triggers, then dock it for a full charge — repeat this cycle a few times. Talk time increases noticeably after each conditioning cycle.

The handset lost its pairing with the base when I swapped the battery — how do I fix it?

Some DECT handsets in the MD7151 and MD7161 series drop their base pairing when power is fully removed. This happens because pairing data is held in volatile memory on the handset. Re-register the handset through the base station's handset registration menu — on most MD-series units, hold the Find Handset button on the base for five seconds to enter pairing mode, then confirm on the handset.

The handset battery drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — what's wrong?

This usually means the handset isn't making a clean connection with the base charging contacts. Check that the handset sits flush in the cradle and that the metal charge contacts on the bottom of the handset are free of dust or tarnish — clean them with a dry cloth. If the contacts look fine, check that the base unit has a solid power connection; a loose adapter can drop the charge current intermittently. After cleaning, seat the handset and confirm the charge indicator light comes on within 30 seconds.
