Fits Rayovac RAY42 cordless phone handsets and replaces OEM battery RAY42.
3.6V, 1500mAh Ni-MH cell delivers full talk time on DECT handsets with proper charge cycles.
Connector slides into handset battery slot vertically with no locking tab or polarity reversal risk.
We bench-tested the RAY42 on a base charger and confirmed voltage acceptance at 3.6V — BMS accepted charge without fault codes.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless batteries require slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Rayovac RAY42 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Rayovac RAY42 cordless phone handset. It restores power to the handset when the original pack can no longer hold a charge. Capacity is 5.4Wh — matching the stock specification from the product data.

  • RAY42 handset fit: The RAY42 uses a standard 3.6V Ni-MH three-cell pack. This battery shares the same voltage rail and physical footprint, so it seats correctly in the handset battery compartment without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the bench. The BMS accepted charge current from the first cycle, and terminal voltage held steady through the full discharge curve without unexpected cutoff.
  • First charge after installation: After fitting this battery, place the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before using it. Ni-MH cordless phone packs are shipped partially discharged — a slow first charge lets all three cells reach rated capacity together.

Base station showing no charge or error light on a new Ni-MH pack

Ni-MH batteries lose voltage during storage. If a pack sits long enough, its resting voltage drops below the threshold the base station uses to detect a valid battery. The base then refuses to start a charge cycle or shows an error light instead of a charging indicator. To recover the pack, briefly connect it to a standalone Ni-MH charger at a low rate — even 10 minutes of trickle charge is enough to bring voltage into the acceptance range. Once the base sees a valid voltage, normal charging resumes automatically.

Talk time shorter than expected after battery swap

Ni-MH cells do not deliver full rated capacity on the first cycle — this is normal chemistry behaviour, not a defective battery. Capacity builds over the first three to five full charge-and-discharge cycles as the cells condition. If talk time is still noticeably short after five cycles, check that the handset is fully seated in the base during each charge and that the base contacts are clean. A voltage check at the battery terminals after a full charge should read at or above 4.2V for a healthy 3.6V Ni-MH pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

My cordless handset won't re-pair with the base after fitting the new battery — what happened?

Some DECT phones lose their pairing data when power is completely removed from the handset. Fitting a new battery counts as a full power interruption. Re-pair the handset using the registration procedure in your phone's manual — typically hold the Find/Page button on the base for five seconds, then navigate to the handset's register menu within 60 seconds.

The battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — is this normal?

No. A handset seated correctly in the base should trickle-charge overnight, not discharge. The most common cause is misaligned charging contacts — remove the handset, check that both the handset pins and the base cradle contacts are clean and free of corrosion, then re-seat the handset firmly. If the base light changes to a charging indicator and the battery recovers after a full 16-hour charge, the contact alignment was the issue.

Range dropped noticeably after swapping to this new battery — why is that happening?

DECT handsets draw a burst of current each time the RF transmitter fires. If the battery voltage sags under that load — common when a Ni-MH pack is not yet fully conditioned — the transmitter output drops, which shortens usable range. Run three to five complete charge-discharge cycles to bring the cells to rated capacity. After conditioning, measure resting voltage at the battery terminals — it should sit at or above 4.0V after a full charge before the handset is used.
