Panasonic KX-TD7894 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (PSPT3HRAAU41)

This is a 3.6V, 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Panasonic KX-TD7894 cordless handset. It replaces OEM part number PSPT3HRAAU41 and fits the KX-TD7894 and KX-TDTD7895 handsets. The original battery degrades over time — this pack restores full cordless function to the handset.

  • KX-TD7894 and KX-TDTD7895 handsets: Both models share the same 3.6V three-cell NiMH pack format, the same connector orientation, and the same base station charging circuit. One battery fits both handsets without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the KX-TD7894 base station charging circuit. The BMS accepted the charge correctly, voltage reached 4.2V at full charge, and the handset reported full charge status on the display.
  • First charge after installation: Place the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH packs shipped in storage state need a slow, full charge cycle to reach rated 1500mAh capacity — skipping this step will result in noticeably shorter talk time from day one.

Range dropping on the KX-TD7894 after a battery swap

The KX-TD7894 transmit circuit draws a surge of current each time the handset sends a DECT radio burst. A NiMH pack that has not been properly conditioned will sag in voltage under that RF load. When voltage sags too far, the handset reduces transmit power to protect the circuit. The fix is to complete three to five full charge-discharge cycles so the cells reach their rated capacity and internal resistance drops to normal.

NiMH batteries sitting in warehouse storage can drop to 3.0V or below. The KX-TD7894 base station charging circuit expects the pack to be above a minimum threshold voltage before it starts the charge cycle — a deeply discharged pack can fall outside that window and the base shows no charge activity. Leave the handset seated in the base for at least 30 minutes; some base stations will trickle-charge below threshold before switching to full charge mode. If the charge light still does not appear after 30 minutes, remove the battery, check the terminal voltage with a multimeter, and confirm it reads at least 3.0V before reseating.

Almost certainly not. NiMH cordless phone batteries need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity — the cells ship in a partially discharged state and the chemistry takes several cycles to fully activate. Run the handset down until it beeps low, then charge for a full 16 hours, and repeat that cycle three times. By cycle four you should see talk time close to the rated capacity of this 1500mAh pack.

My KX-TD7894 handset lost its pairing with the base station after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

When power is fully removed from a DECT handset during a battery swap, some models clear the pairing data stored in the handset's volatile memory. This is a handset behaviour, not a battery fault. Re-register the handset using the base station's registration button — on most Panasonic KX-TD systems, hold the locator button on the base for three seconds, then follow the handset menu to re-register. Once paired, the handset will operate normally.

The KX-TD7894 battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what causes that?

The base station can only charge the handset when the contacts are making a clean connection. If the handset is not fully seated — even a millimetre off — the charging circuit does not engage and the handset runs on standby draw alone, which will flatten a 1500mAh NiMH pack within several hours. Remove the handset, clean the charging contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth, reseat the handset firmly, and confirm the charge indicator light activates within 10 seconds of placing it in the cradle.
