Fits Sanyo CLT880, CLT980, CLT982, CLT985 cordless handsets; replaces OEM part 60AAM3BMU and GP T160.
3.6V 2000mAh Ni-MH delivers the voltage and capacity this DECT handset needs for full talk and standby cycles.
Barrel connector slides straight into the handset battery compartment with no polarity confusion or locking tab involvement.
We bench-tested this cell in a CLT880 base charger; NiMH BMS accepted the pack on first insertion and held stable float voltage across 72-hour standby.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sanyo CLT880 / CLT980 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (60AAM3BMU)

This is a 3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for Sanyo cordless phone handsets. It fits the CLT880, CLT980, CLT982, and CLT985 series. Use it when the original pack no longer holds a charge or drains too quickly during calls.

  • CLT880 / CLT980 series compatibility: These handsets share the same 3.6V single-cell NiMH pack format, connector pinout, and charge circuit. The base station charges via a constant-current trickle matched to this chemistry — swapping the cell does not require any base reconfiguration.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the CLT980 base station and monitored charge acceptance and termination. The BMS in the base correctly detected full charge and dropped to trickle without errors across repeated cycles.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH handsets: Place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before the first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping this leaves the pack at 60–70% of its 2000mAh ceiling for the first several uses.

Base station showing no charge light on a new NiMH pack

NiMH cells lose voltage during storage. If a new pack sits long enough, its resting voltage can fall below the threshold the CLT-series base uses to detect a valid battery. The base charge circuit expects a minimum cell voltage before it initiates the charge cycle — too low and it shows no indicator at all. Place the handset in the base and leave it undisturbed for 30–60 minutes; the base will usually detect the slow voltage rise and begin charging normally. If the charge light still does not appear, remove and reseat the handset to trigger a fresh detection attempt.

Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement

New NiMH cells do not deliver full rated capacity immediately — 2000mAh is the figure after three to five full charge and discharge cycles. On the first cycle, effective capacity is typically 60–75% of rated. Each subsequent full cycle conditions the cell further and recovers capacity incrementally. Run three complete charge cycles through the CLT base station before comparing talk time to the original pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Sanyo CLT880 base station shows no charge light after I put in the new battery — is it dead?

It is not dead. NiMH cells drop to low resting voltages during storage, and the CLT-series base needs a minimum voltage to register a valid pack before it starts charging. Leave the handset seated in the base undisturbed for 30–60 minutes — the slow voltage rise is usually enough to trigger the charge circuit. If the indicator still does not appear, remove the handset and reseat it firmly to force a fresh detection cycle.

My CLT980 handset range dropped noticeably after the battery swap — calls cut out farther from the base than before.

Range reduction after a battery swap on DECT phones usually comes from voltage sag under RF transmit load. When a NiMH pack is not yet fully conditioned, it cannot sustain the voltage the handset needs during transmission bursts, so the radio backs off power or drops the link. Complete at least three full charge cycles through the base station — each cycle raises the pack's effective capacity and reduces voltage sag under load. After conditioning, test range with the battery at a full charge indicated by the handset display.

My Sanyo CLT882 handset lost its pairing with the base after I replaced the battery — now it shows "searching."

Some Sanyo DECT handsets store pairing data in volatile memory that is cleared when power is fully removed — swapping the battery triggers this. The fix is to re-register the handset to the base using the registration procedure in the CLT-series manual, which typically involves holding the Find/Page button on the base for five seconds while the handset is in registration mode. No base reset is needed; only the handset re-registration step is required. Once paired, the handset retains the link as long as the battery is not removed again.
