Fits Tivoli Audio PAL BT, PAL+, and PAL+ BT portable DAB radios; replaces OEM part MA-4.
7.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH cell delivers stable voltage across the full DAB tuning and listening cycle.
Connector slides straight into the battery compartment with the tab facing outward; locking groove holds firm.
We ran a full charge cycle and monitored voltage sag under sustained DAB reception — pack held steady above 6.8V with no dropout.
After installing this cell, allow the radio to complete a full auto-scan for stations before manual tuning — DAB radios reset their station list after power loss and need a fresh scan to rebuild reception.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tivoli Audio PAL BT / PAL+ Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (MA-4)

This is a 7.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Tivoli Audio PAL BT, PAL+, and PAL+ BT portable DAB digital radios. It matches the OEM MA-4 and PP-2 part numbers and fits directly into the original battery compartment. When the factory pack can no longer hold a charge, this restores the radio to full working condition.

  • PAL BT, PAL+, and PAL+ BT compatibility: All three models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector orientation, and 7.2V supply rail, so one pack covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through charge and discharge cycles on a PAL BT unit. The BMS held stable voltage across the DAB decoder during full signal acquisition, and the pack accepted a full charge without thermal event.
  • First-use station scan: After fitting this battery, run a full auto-scan before manual tuning. DAB radios store station lists in volatile memory — any power interruption resets that list, and the radio needs a fresh scan to rebuild it correctly.

Radio cutting out mid-station at low battery

The DAB decoder in the PAL BT requires a steady voltage supply to decode the digital audio stream. When battery voltage sags under the decoder's minimum threshold, the stream drops and the radio either cuts to silence or reboots. This happens more frequently in areas with weak DAB signal, because the radio pushes its RF front-end harder to acquire the signal, drawing more current from the pack. If your radio is cutting out, check battery voltage — anything below 6.0V under load will cause decode errors.

Reception noticeably worse after fitting a new battery

A Ni-MH pack fresh out of packaging often hasn't reached full capacity on its first charge cycle. At partial charge, the voltage under RF load can sit below the level needed for full transmit search power, which makes weak-signal stations harder to lock onto. Cycle the battery through two or three full charge and discharge passes before judging reception quality. After conditioning, resting voltage should read between 8.0V and 8.4V on a freshly charged pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PAL BT lost all its saved stations after I put the new battery in — is that normal?

Yes, this is expected. The PAL BT stores its station list in volatile memory, and that list clears whenever power is interrupted — including during a battery swap. Run a full auto-scan from the radio's menu after fitting the new pack, and the station list will rebuild from the current DAB multiplex. Manual tuning before scanning won't recover the old list.

The radio works fine at home but cuts out constantly when I use it somewhere with weaker DAB coverage — could the battery be causing this?

It can be a factor. In weak-signal areas, the PAL BT increases the power drawn by its RF front-end to search for and lock onto broadcasts. This raises current draw from the battery, causing voltage to sag. If the pack is partially discharged or still in its first cycle, that sag can drop below the decoder's minimum stable voltage and cause stream errors. Charge the battery fully and check that resting voltage reads above 8.0V before use in poor-reception areas.

Battery life seems much shorter when I'm outdoors compared to using the radio at home — is the pack faulty?

Probably not faulty. The PAL BT draws significantly more current when operating in areas of weak DAB signal because the RF section works harder to maintain a lock on the multiplex. That higher continuous draw depletes the pack faster than it would during indoor use on a strong signal. This is normal behaviour for DAB receivers — the pack capacity hasn't changed, only the rate at which the radio consumes it. For extended outdoor use, keep the battery fully charged before you leave.
