Fits TEAC R1, R2, and R-1 portable DAB radios; replaces BP-R1EU, BP-R1, BP-R2, BP-R5, BP-R12EU battery packs.
7.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers stable voltage for DAB tuner RF circuits and full-power station scanning.
Battery slides into the rear compartment with a single locking tab; connector is keyed and only seats one way.
We tested the pack on a bench R1 unit through five full charge cycles; BMS voltage held flat until final 15 percent.
After battery installation, run a full auto-scan for DAB stations before manual tuning — the R1 resets its station list after power loss.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TEAC R1 / R2 Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BP-R1EU)

This is a 7.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the TEAC R1, R-1, R2, and R-2 portable DAB digital radios. It replaces OEM part numbers BP-R1EU, BP-R1, BP-R2, BP-R5, and BP-R12EU. When the original pack no longer holds a charge, this restores full portable operation to your DAB receiver.

  • R1 / R2 platform compatibility: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 7.2V supply rail. The DAB decoder and RF front-end both draw from the same pack, so voltage and cell count must match exactly — this battery does.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a DAB receiver load. The BMS held voltage stable across both the RF stage and the digital decoder without dropout. Cell balance stayed consistent across multiple cycles.
  • Station list recovery after swap: After fitting this battery, let the radio run a full auto-scan before manually selecting stations. DAB station lists are stored in volatile memory and are wiped on power loss — a complete scan rebuilds the full station index correctly.

Radio cutting out mid-station at low battery

The DAB decoder in the R1 and R2 requires a stable, uninterrupted voltage supply to decode the OFDM stream. When cell voltage sags below roughly 6.0V under load, the decoder loses sync and the audio drops out — this is a voltage floor issue, not a signal issue. A fresh, fully charged pack eliminates the sag. If cutouts persist with a new battery, check that the radio's battery contacts are clean and making firm contact with the pack terminals.

Reception noticeably worse than with the original battery

The RF front-end in a DAB radio draws more current when it's hunting for a weak multiplex signal. If the battery voltage is marginal, the radio can't sustain full RF output power and signal acquisition degrades. This appears as poor reception or frequent re-buffering even in areas where the radio previously performed well. Charge the new pack fully before testing reception — Ni-MH cells need at least one complete charge cycle to reach rated capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TEAC R1 lost all its saved stations after I swapped the battery — do I need to re-enter them manually?

No manual re-entry needed. DAB station lists are held in volatile memory, so any power interruption — including a battery swap — wipes them. Go to the radio's menu and run a full auto-scan (sometimes labelled "Auto Tune" or "Full Scan"). The radio will rebuild the complete station index from the current DAB multiplex signal, which takes a few minutes to complete.

The radio cuts out and restarts mid-broadcast, but only when the battery icon shows one bar — why?

The DAB decoder needs a steady voltage to maintain its OFDM lock on the broadcast stream. When the pack voltage sags below approximately 6.0V under the combined load of the RF stage and digital decoder, the stream sync breaks and the radio resets to recover it. A new, fully charged pack eliminates the sag. If the cutouts still happen with a charged battery, clean the battery bay contacts with a dry cloth — corrosion increases resistance and produces the same voltage drop under load.

Why does the new battery drain faster when I'm listening in areas with weak DAB signal?

In areas with a weak multiplex signal, the RF front-end continuously increases its search and acquisition power to lock onto the broadcast. That sustained high-current draw depletes the pack noticeably faster than normal listening conditions. This is normal Ni-MH behaviour under variable load — it's not a battery fault. For regular use in a known weak-signal location, keep a second charged pack on hand, or position the radio near a window to reduce the signal search load.
