Fits Mackwell BH164 emergency lighting units; replaces OEM part MGH9013, TBS-B902, or B902.
2.4V Ni-MH at 3800mAh delivers 9.12Wh — enough capacity for full-duration discharge cycles in standard exit sign housings.
Connector slides into the vertical slot with polarized leads; locking tab seats flush against the fitting base.
We bench-tested this cell on a BH164 charger; BMS accepted the new pack within two charge cycles with no fault codes.
Run a full manual test cycle within 24 hours of install by holding the test button for rated duration — this confirms the cell accepts load and registers new capacity before compliance testing.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Mackwell BH164 Series — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (MGH9013)

This is a 2.4V, 3800mAh Ni-MH replacement cell for Mackwell emergency lighting units. It fits the BH164 and related models including 2QQMH4-0-CP, 2QQMH4-0LFT4, and 2QQMH40CP. It replaces OEM part MGH9013 and cross-references TBS-B902 and B902.

  • BH164 platform compatibility: These models share a common 2.4V battery bay, connector pinout, and charge controller float voltage. One cell specification covers the full BH164 cluster without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and confirmed the BMS accepted the charge without triggering a fault flag. Cell voltage at rest settled within the float acceptance window the charge controller expects.
  • First cycle after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the cell accepts load under real conditions and lets the charge controller register the new cell before your next scheduled compliance test.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed Ni-MH cell often has not reached full capacity when it first comes off storage. The charge controller in the BH164 fitting applies a trickle float charge — it does not run a rapid conditioning cycle. This means the cell may only hold 60–70% of rated capacity on the first test if it has not had at least 24 hours of uninterrupted charge before the test button is pressed. Run one full charge cycle, then hold the test button to complete a full duration discharge before the compliance test date.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

The BH164 charge controller checks that incoming cell voltage sits within a narrow acceptance window before switching the LED from red to green. A cell that has self-discharged during storage may arrive below that threshold — typically under 2.0V for a 2.4V Ni-MH pack. The controller reads this as a fault condition rather than a low cell. Leave the fitting powered for 12–24 hours; once the trickle charge raises cell voltage above the acceptance floor, the LED will transition to green without any manual reset.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Mackwell emergency light passed inspection last year but now fails the duration test even with a new battery fitted — what's going on?

A new Ni-MH cell needs at least one full charge-discharge cycle before it delivers rated capacity. The BH164 fitting only trickle charges — it does not condition the cell. If the compliance test runs within hours of fitting, the cell won't be at 3800mAh yet. Charge it for 24 hours, then manually trigger a full duration test before the inspector visits.

The light comes on during a mains failure test but dims noticeably after a few minutes — is the battery faulty?

Not necessarily faulty — most likely under-conditioned. A Ni-MH cell that has sat in storage delivers its first discharge at reduced capacity, then dims as voltage sags under load. This is a first-cycle characteristic, not a defect. Run the fitting on mains charge for 24 hours, then do a full manual test-button discharge to allow the cell to reach its rated 3800mAh output on the next cycle.

The fitting shows a fault LED even though the new battery is correctly installed and making good contact — how do I clear it?

Some Mackwell fittings latch a fault LED in firmware and do not auto-reset when a new cell is fitted. The fix is a manual reset: isolate mains power to the fitting for 30 seconds, then restore it. This clears the latched fault state and forces the charge controller to re-read the new cell voltage. If the fault LED returns after reset, check that cell voltage is above 2.0V — a deeply discharged cell from storage can re-trigger the fault immediately.
